"Next you'll be saying he [Hanks] never worked for FedX? Say it isn't so."

LOL

Hanks may have been the keynote speaker for the FedEx Convention at some south Pacific island resort -- quite frankly, I'm afraid to check that out for sure ;-)

Now that would make me sad, very sad. LOL

Do you really believe anyone would think that Hanks is an expert on anything other than acting?

. . . he was a big Dukakis supporter during the 1988 campaign.

Ethnic pride was probably a big factor in that for Bobby the Greek.

Costas is knowledgeable about baseball history and he loves the game, I'll give him that much.

But Mr. & Mrs. Sarandon are known to politicize events they attend, so I can understand the Hall cancelling the event.

What I can't understand is why they scheduled a 15th anniversary celebration for a movie like Bull Durham in the first place!?! What were they thinking? Was this a Bud "Larry" Selig P.C. decision, like retiring Jackie Robinson's number all across baseball?

If they wanted to pick a more wholesome movie to honor, one that conveys a real love for baseball, they could have picked either "The Sandlot" or "The Rookie."

Upon watching his performance in 'The Philadelphia Story,' I could believe Hanks has been ordered to "report" to the lead float in any number of world-wide 'Pride Day' parades since -- yeah, he's a goood actor.

While there is a very close working relationship the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Major League Baseball are separate entities. Over the years watching Costas I knew he leaned left so this is no surprise to me. Fortunately right now Fox owns the rights to Major League Baseball so no sight of Costas at least there. In fact its been a long time since I have watched much of NBC sports since apart from NASCAR and the Olympics they have shed all their sports properties. I don't watch the NBC version of the Olympics since I have a choice to watch the Canadian version up here and Costas knows squat about NASCAR.

I have to give Hanks some credit. He is a liberal, but he also is pro-America. I think it is a good thing to honor WWII vets as he does. He also has some somewhat conservative views, i.e pro death penalty. For the most part he is quiet about his politics, thank goodness.

"Field of Dreams was a much more appropriate baseball movie, and a better movie overall."

I thought Major League was a better comedy than Bull Durham.

I would imagine the would be much more likely to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Bull Durham than Eight Men Out, even though it was a better movie.

ESPN is certainly infected with leftism.

I think it's mostly just the sports writers. Quite a number of athletes are conservatives.

"I thought Major League was a better comedy than Bull Durham."

"Comedy" being the keyword here.

OTOH, 'Bull Durham' may as well been just another doofy Neil Simon production....

As for Costner, he played the part as he usually does -- as a corpse masquerading as the living.

>>I can't say I recall the All-Star game you're alluding to...<<

"The All Star game where the commish said: 'Okay. Games over. Everybody go home. Thanks for coming, you suckers.'"

Was that the ridiculous "tie"??

Wonder what Katie-Couric-Costas did think of it....
