I have agreed with him on a number of baseball issues in the past, but have become increasingly dismayed by the shrillness of his positions in recent years. His position on the Hall Call with respect to Robbins and Sarandon is plain stupid. He did not need to weigh in on the issue, and by doing so, revealed himself.
Bill Huber, in his letter to the New York Times on April 13, got it exactly right:
Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have used their celebrity to protest against the administration and the war at every opportunity. In doing so, they became, by choice, symbols.
Honoring them is as much a political statement as disinviting them.
Freedom of speech is not consequence-free. It allows people and organizations to answer back.
Give it up, Bob. You only diminish yourself when you shill for your leftist masters.
Agreed. He did nothing BUT out himself as a leftist tool, but Costas has always been a self-proclaimed elitist on everything from baseball to....I guess politics.
