Fed's attack Texas church and burn it to the ground.....
PBS - WGBH/Frontline ^ | 1995 | PBS

Posted on 04/19/2003 2:05:26 PM PDT by ASTM366

As I do each year, I post information to commemorate the attack by FBI agents in military vehicles on the Branch Davidians compound near Waco, Texas on April 19, 1993.

The Branch Davidians, a reclusive group of Christian believers, had been attacked 51 days earlier by over 100 heavily armed BATF agents, surrounded and subjected to psychological warfare techniques by government agents. On April 19th the feds sent in military vehicles to fill the building at the Branch Davidian compound with chemical agents to flush out the remaining occupants. What resulted was a fire that burned to death nearly all the occupants; INNOCENT men, women, children and infants. Some committed suicide by self inflicted gunshot.

To this day the federal government has never accepted responsibility for the events of 1993, nor have they apologized for their ugly and glaring display of unchecked power.

In a tragic and spectacular act of revenge, Timothy McVeigh and his associates carbombed the offices of the BATF and FBI in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995.

"That would be because I'm normal and have a life, as opposed to being a delusional paranoid.

Stick to the facts and discussion HERO and stop wasting bandwidth with such narcissistic dribble.

"Generally speaking, it is a pretty good sign that you are in a cult if you are fully prepared to have your preacher tell you to lock and load, there are firearms caches around the compound that serves as your "church", and you get into a standoff for a full 51 days after you shoot a federal officer."

Are you condoning the killing of innocent women and children just because they are in a cult. What are you telling us?

"they were talking about lighting HAY on fire and the discussions were taking place seconds before the FBI's IR equipment picked up the fires starting within seconds of each other in differant parts of the compound."

"The BATF hearings made no mention of any tape such as you describe. Perhaps you can provide me a citation to it?"

You seem to have been here at FR long enough to know that sources are required to substantiate loose assertions (such souces, which you seem to not be interested in reading for yourself, are what prove to most of us here at FR that Reno and her ilk simply murdered these people to cover up the disaster that the fibees had begun).

So, I'll bump supercat's request for a source and patiently await your credible reply. If frontline indeed had such a tape, as you allege, then certainly there are digital sources also available online, as I'm certain that they weren't the ONLY media outlet privy to the facts which you claim, yet which nobody here, many of whom have hundreds of hours researching the Waco tradgedy, seems to have ever heard of except you.

no more rhetorical name calling now, just the source please. Thank you.

No source, no credibility at FR.

The ATF was dealing with a dangerous apocalypic cult that had more than a million rounds of ammo, do you think they were going to go knock on the front door?

Considering that the leader was known to go out and about on a regular basis, stopping him in his truck or possibly while he was jogging would have produced the same effects with a LOT LESS BLOODSHED.

the women were not killed by the feds, they were killed by the cop killers who started the fire and alot of the kids were shot by their own mothers.

I doubt you could get a conviction had they all lived. The fact is that this was started because BATF wanted a show for TV. Federal law enforcement bloodied itself by poor(criminal?) leadership.

BTW, you've been great on this issue. I don't know how you can stand conversing with these moronic mouth breathers. They're disgusting.

Thanks. Although much of the scrutiny has been on the April attack, I personally find the abuses of power in the February attack equally compelling, especially since (1) the latter is a sine qua non of the former; (2) there is indisputable proof of wanton recklessness on the part of government agents; (3) a sine qua non of the February 28 casualties was the decision to conduct a lawless no-knock raid despite the lack of authorization.

Every BATF agent who entered Mount Carmel Center during that initial attack should be charged with 11 counts of Murder in the First Degree. They had no legal justification for entering the way they did (thus their entry constituted armed burglary), and their actions resulted in the death of 11 people.

Again, you're making lots of claims, but have yet to link a credible source to even ONE of them. Now enough of the name-calling and prove your point with evidence please.

"David Koresh had more than ample oppertunity to release the children, but the coward decided they would be more valuble as human shields, and all the children who were shot were killed at point blank range apprently by their mothers."

Are you condoning the killing of innocent women and children even if they are being used as human shields. Man you are sick!

And while your on a roll back up the statement "all the children who were shot were killed at point blank range apprently by their mothers" with a source. ...Because that is pure bullpucky. Source it or shut up!

The fact is, the BATF did not have to conduct the initial raid. The old sheriff from McLennan County said he could have picked up the phone, asked Howell to come down, and he would have come down. But the ATF, for some reason needed a raid. Maybe they were going for budget money, or they wanted to impress their new boss, Lloyd Bentsen.

Once the raid occurred, however, Howell milked it for all it was worth. He had prepared his people for an "Armageddon," and this was his chance.

Howell played the FBI like a violin, stringing them along with promises, then reneging.

He made all the children who were not his, or somehow attached to one of his many wives, leave.

The FBI was clearly embarrassed. They knew that, had they chosen to wait him out, that could have taken a very long time, since Howell had stockpiled supplies for just such an occasion.

Using tear gas, tearing down walls, etc. on that final day gave Howell the cue he needed, and he burnt the place to ground, shooting many of the people inside before they could be consumed by fire.

Lessons were learned, however. The Montana militiamen standoff ended peacefully, and these guys likely had all kinds of weapons as well. But the FBI was patient, shut off power and took the story out of the headlines.

Had the FBI done the same at Waco, and that should have included telling the press that this would be a long-term deal so that the press would have lost interest and left thus depriving Howell of something he really wanted, the incineration would have been avoided.

The only idiots who have attempted anything in the intervening ten years close to this was that Beck character out in California who shot a cop or two, then sat in his house while it burned down, and the Republic of Texas standoff, which the FBI wisely left to the Texas Rangers, who played mind games with Richard McLaren and ended the standoff peacefully.

Get rid of the publicity, and these situations can be defused pretty quickly, because megalomaniacs like Howell can't stand being ignored.

Nor, frankly, can some in the FBI, and those people should be run out of law enforcement.

It appears that you must have been in the compound as it was burning because you got information that everybody here just does not have, and they got lots I tell you. I am impressed. Source it or shut up!

The WACO white-wash continues!

True or false: This whole thing started when BATF agents conducted a violent forced entry in a manner not justified by any warrant they possessed.

the differance is those militia groups are sunshine warriors trying to cheat on their taxes, they were not sociopaths prepared to die to get out of filing a tax return
