Snowe is Having Her Little Power Play so She Can Have a Higher National Profile

Olympia has bigger fish to fry. She wants a national reputation and fighting Bush on taxes is the next best news story since Iraq. Is she holding out to be Vice President Snowe? God please forbid!! Olympia or as she is known in Maine, as No Personality Snowe, wants more power and by playing games with Bush she can get it. She has not problems with fighting Republicans because there are few real Republicans in Maine. She is a Democrat who just plays a Republican. And she will jump parties too.

Yes, Michaud is a Democrat, I forgot and mixed him up with that teacher from the southern part of the state who challenged Chinchette.

Agreed. If Snowe jumped, she would only activate the Republican base (just like Jeffords did--and now, VT has a Republican governor) and, given the trend we expect in the Senate races next year, she would be guaranteeing her place in the minority.

The only way to beat Snowe will be to catch her in bed with a girl scout troop. She has to be discredited because of her choices instead of having them ignored or forgotten,

I thought the same thing in Vermont but this guy Douglas came out of absolutely nowhere and won the governorship. It's possible. But true--this is Maine we're talking about.

How stupid do you have to be to think you can change a politicians vote with an attempt at public pressure?

The time to get all the Ducks in a row was before the vote in the senate. The genie is out of the bottle. Attempts to get the RINOs back in line are doomed to failure. Such attempts reveal a political naiveté of colossal magnitude.

This tax cut debacle is a direct result of replacing Trent Lott with Bill Frist. Frist is an amateur and has lost all the RINOs while Daschle has held all the DINOs and gained the RINOs.

Last fall when Daschle was threatening a filibuster in the special session to prevent the confirmation of Judges and the passage of the 2002 budget, Trent Lott held all the RINOs and gained 15 DINOs to defeat Daschle and the Democrats. Trent had to call Hastert who was in Europe at the time to hold Snowe and Chaffee... but he got it done.

Frist on judges, the budget, and tax cuts has lost all the DINOs and nearly all the RINOs. I said at the time Bush and Rove dumped Lott that it was the dumbest political move seen in my life time. Events are proving me right.

Frist and Rove are proving over and over they are no match for Daschle. Frist is a loser and no match for Daschle and Bush has only himself to blame.

People who think George Voinovich will back down under public pressure think Ohio is a Republican state and Cleveland is a Republican city. Anyone who thinks they can organize the public enough to make George back down does not know George Voinovich. The Rove and Bush attempt to put public pressure on Voinovich only ensures Voinovich will get even by voting against Bush on many other matters.

Someone is going to be taught a lesson in this tax cut debacle. It will not be George Voinovich.

Ah, you know Maine...it has the Peoples Republic of Portland and the Welfare State of Lewiston Auburn in a state of a little more than a million.

I think you have a point when it comes to tactics Dashole is a master. Look at how he has blocked Estrada. We are being bamboozled on the domestic front. And we have had a weak leadership in the house and senate. And Snowe is the kind of snake in the grass that will slither where it does her best.

I know Maine well, we vacation there all the time, heck, there was a time my parents wanted to retire there (but they are opting for New Hampshire, being as that it is far more conservative).

Portland...that is one yuppy little town ain't it. The condom shops and the lesbian bars, not to mention the endless Starbucks-esque coffee shops.

We moved out after about 20 years in Portland. Not a place to raise children. Was a wonderful town at one time. Safe and clean.

We haven't been to Portland in almost a year now. Even back in the mid 1990s the city was better than it is now. I can't say I liked it there at all.

I don't think Douglas came out of nowhere to win the Vermont governorship. He was the State Treasurer, and had previously run for the Senate.

i think she's just an old-fashioned, liberal rockefellar fiscal "conservative."

Their lives revolve around balanced budgets and they don't care if they get there via tax increases or tax deductions. We have a similar blight in Ohio by the name of Taft....our governor. What a joke.

Yes, he was Treasurer and Secretary of State and a State Rep., but the way I had always evaluated the race was that Douglas had no chance in hell of beating Racine. So despite the fact that he trailed in the polls all the way through, the fact that he won was surprising. It was not so much a come-from-nowhere win as it was an astounding come-from-behind win.

Yellow Snowe must be feeling some heat or guilt. She put a full page add in the paper rebutting the TV ads against her. It is amazing that the Senator from the highest taxed state in the nation is against cutting taxes. Maine has become a leftist cesspool with liberals from Mass. and hippies that never grew up. Maine's only hope is to suceed to Canada.
