This basic approach has apparently been tried, and failed, already.
The problem seems to be that a person needs to have been symptomatic for many days (sometimes two weeks) before anti-bodies show in the blood in sufficient quantity to detect. Hence, this approach has been useless for any practical diagnostic work.
However, if the test is sensitive enough, perhaps the Chinese have something. We can hope.
