"It's an acknowledgement that gay soldiers can fight and do fight," Frank said. "They do not undermine military effectiveness. When the military needs gay soldiers, it looks the other way."

If I was in a firefight and someone was busy watching my ass instead of my back, I'm afraid there might be "friendly fire".

Why do these bone-smokers keep popping up? Because they are what they do, and "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" catches more of the fudge-packers than did the outright prohibition against military service. If they don't want to be caught, don't join.

Tens of thousands of service members are gay, bisexual or lesbian, Ralls said.

"There's no way to know for sure," he said. "Most gay service men and women serve in the closet."

Then how does he know there are tens of thousands?

Senior Airman Jason Pickart was slated to deploy in May. But just weeks before the start of the United States’ war with Iraq, the 20-year-old gay Dayton resident was booted from the Air Force...

Nathaniel Frank, a research fellow with the center, said homosexual discharge rates have dropped during every major conflict since World War II.

Mr. Frank wants to be the first to say that airmen Pickart is not a coward. Sheesh.

Since there isn't any thing more to slam President Bush over, I feel we will hear more about this garbage in the future... I am glad the armed services are cleaning up. Now if they would only remove women from serving along side the ground troops in a hot zone, everyone would be safer. Thoughts?
Best wishes...

"I didn’t understand the logic of it,” [don't ask, don't tell] said the former medical technician

So, he knew the rules: Don't stick your wang where it doesn't belong.

Easy to read suspicious motives into stuff like this. Let's say I joined the military as a job, never intending to go to Iraq to possibly be killed (the liberals all said it would be a bloodbath). Then, it becomes obvious (last October/November) that something is going to happen there. Perhaps, to get out of having to fight, I drop the "I'm gay" news in just the right place so it gets out (doesn't this guy understand the "Don't tell" part?). I accomplish my goal, don't have to go, getting out of the service on a dishonorable is an acceptable price to pay to save my skin.

But then the Iraq thing turns out to be a turkey shoot and it's over in days, with no more wars likely during my hitch. Suddenly, it isn't looking so smart to have maneuvered myself out of having to serve, especially in a tight job market. Maybe time to hit the media and start crying about my constitutional rights?

Easy to be suspicious. Nobody but him knows the real story. Patton definitely would have slapped the guy. ;)

"Most gay service men and women serve in the closet."

And military adulturers are serving in the closet also....because they don't want their actions known

So.........everyone gets treated fairly.

"My sexuality has nothing to do with my job performance. It’s not relevant at all," said the graduate of St. John’s Military School in Kansas.

But his running around advertising it, and constantly seeking approval and "celebration" from others for his perversion, affects THEIR job performance.

The expulsion was justified and prudent. Don't ask - don't tell means just that.

" 'My sexuality has nothing to do with my job performance. It’s not relevant at all,' said the graduate of St. John’s Military School in Kansas."

"The homosexual movement has a history of trying to claw its way into places its agenda doesn’t belong, not for the betterment of mankind, but simply to legitimize and normalize perverse behavior. This is apparent in the all-too-common need of homosexuals to declare their sexuality rather than simply do the job they sign on to do.

This is extremely detrimental - first, it creates conflict with others as most believe homosexuality to be wrong, and it shows that the full efforts of the employed homosexual are not going towards performing the task at hand but largely to declaring their lifestyle..."

The homosexual movement is marked by two major tendencies: the tendency to continually infiltrate all good aspects of society; and once they have achieved that, the tendency to destroy this good. Public education, the Boy Scouts, the military, and now the Catholic Church have been targeted, and all have been hurt by the effects of homosexuality..."

The military is just not the place for sex. Gay or Straight sex, it doesn't matter. Which is why I don't think women should be in "hot" zones either. There are more important things for GIs to do than think about who they want to be sleeping with.

I didn't know that puns were allowed in this place:

During times of conflict, the discharge rate for homosexuals...

...(Gay discharges) declined ...

...such discharges usually decline...

I would prefer the prior complete exclusion be reinstated. (With hitlary on the military subcomittee, I don't know if this is viable. Isn't she up in 2006.)

Okay, so if it's not relevant, why not keep it to yourself?
