The .223 caliber of the M-16 has almost no "kick". I let a Boy Scout Troop shoot my .223 at the range and they loved it. So did one of boy's mother. I'm sure you can handle it.

That could very well be. The last time I handled a weapon of any kind was ahhhhhhhh "several years ago." The Walter Mitty in me would like for me to be a crack shot, one of the special operations team......you know. Then reality sets in and I remember the job that I have that I really love and that's to be the best auntie and gramma I can be. Life does have it's rewards!
