I thought the guy's video showed the Columbia flying sideways, too. Here's a link to one of my posts on the subject after a Freeper set me straight: Shuttle Pic - SIDE VIEW. For a layman like me, it sure looks like the shuttle flying sideways. But if you analyze it fully, there's no way the camera could have caught so much detail (inadequate zoom).

I found this the most persuasive post to refute the notion that the video showed the shuttle flying "sideways".
