Just my opinion, but as I recall, Dr. Gerberding expressed concern about SARS with respect to the coming 2003 flu season in one of her press conferences...and I think it was aristeides or blam who posted the information about the beginnings of the 1918 epidemic in the spring of 1918...and the relatively few cases over the summer.
We get a new flu vaccine every year, but evidently a SARS vaccine is a long way off. Not surprising given the apparent mutation rate.

I wonder how far the Canadian PM will go, aside from staying in Toronto, to prove there is no SARS crisis there...it would be ironic if he took a foolish risk and caught it...

"I think it was aristeides or blam who posted the information about the beginnings of the 1918 epidemic in the spring of 1918...and the relatively few cases over the summer." Don't recall that I posted it. Aristeides will be along in a bit.

Doesn't matter. Anyone who cares to can look it up for themselves, but thank you...;-D

I don't think I posted it either. I think I remember reading it here on FR, and being reminded of having read it at some time in the past.

Thanks to both of you. We've gotten so much information that it's impossible for me to remember where all of it came from. I'm really grateful to every poster here who has added to the knowledge base we have.

"Thanks to both of you. We've gotten so much information that it's impossible for me to remember where all of it came from. I have tried to put the word 'SARS' in the title of all articles I have posted so that they may be found just by entering SARS on the search.

If you click on the keyword "SARS", you'll get most of the threads.

Did you buy stock in whatever company is making the drug? Who is it? I'll call my broker Monday morning.

That was a great link, about the vaccine. I almost laughed when I read their definition of "forward looking statements" which I've excerpted here:
Statements herein relating to future financial or business performance, conditions or strategies and other financial and business matters, including expectations regarding future revenues and operating expenses, are forward- looking statements within the meaning of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act. Forward-looking statements are typically identified by words or phrases such as "believe," "expect," "anticipate," "intend," "estimate," "assume," "plan," "outlook," "prospect," and variations of such words and similar expressions, or future or conditional verbs such as "will," "would," "should," "could," "may," or similar expressions.
GenVec cautions that these forward-looking statements are subject to numerous assumptions, risks and uncertainties, which change over time. The following factors, among others, could cause actual results to differ materially from forward-looking statements or historical experience: risks relating to the early stage of product candidates under development, risks relating to GenVec's ability to identify and enter into agreements with potential collaborative partners, uncertainties relating to clinical trials, dependence on third parties, future capital needs, and risks relating to the commercialization, if any, of GenVec's proposed product candidates (such as marketing, regulatory, patent, product liability, supply, competition and other risks).
GenVec's SEC reports identify additional factors that can affect forward-looking statements. These forward-looking statements speak only as of the date of this press release, and GenVec assumes no duty to update forward-looking statements.
I really don't look for a vaccine this year. Something tells me GenVec doesn't either.

"Anyway, this incident can't be used as an example of lying by the CDC. We were told the truth as soon as they knew it."
Anyway, I really can't disagree with what you said. They did use the proper terms and language to lead and mislead while legally covering there butt. A+ for that. I know I know, they are just guessing on everything.

I dunno, cost the tax payer? What in lives or cash? Should I go shopping for a mask and boost ye old economy? I look at the headline here, 4000 in china quarantined.
BTW Yeah, I do wash my hands, but washing my hands will really help when that guy that just flew in from china boogy coughs on the back of my head in the elevator. Here is a Personal health question for you: When you're in the shower or bath, do you clean your butt with the same bar of soap you clean your face with?

(in a real panic caused by a real outbreak the WHO and CDC would cease to exist.)
To: CJ Wolf
CJ, try using an antibacterial liquid soap in a dispenser. And use a different washcloth for your face. And wash your butt last, unless you have an athlete's foot problem...
I can't help it...I'm laughing...
