LOS ANGELES (AP) - California communities will be reimbursed for the hundreds of millions of dollars they have spent on security since the 2001 terrorist attacks, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge pledged during an appearance before the state's fire and police chiefs.

Thank You, Mr. Ridge, for donating our nation;s taxpayer monies to battle the California state budget deficit.
I'm sure the state will spend the money well. We may need some more high paid consultants to help in deciding how best to spend it though. Is that OK?

Pretzel logic. If you don't cross illegally, you won't get an ass-kicking.

An interesting point was made on this (from Chicago Tribune): Mexico "sent 18,000 soldiers and 12,000 police officers to protect sites sensitive to U.S. interests, including border crossings, airports, utility plants, expatriate communities, tourist spots and schools attended by American children."
I have seen info on this before -- that Mexico has placed far more troops and police on the border than we have. Of course, as we all know they are quite open to bribes so it has just jacked up the cost for illegals, thus the increase in illegals acting as drug mules. But it is interesting that Mexico can at least put troops on the border -- but we don't.
The next point is this (again from Trib article): " Much of the program is dedicated to building a high-tech 'smart border,' which would limit security threats while easing bottlenecks and ensuring the smooth flow of legitimate commercial and commuter traffic. More than 900,000 people a day cross the 2,000-mile long border. Only $25 million has been dedicated to the program, and working group members did not report concrete advances this week. But they said progress had been made in discussions, including plans to double the number of "fast lanes" across the border over the next year for preapproved commuters."
Okay, an easy way to figure government costs is to figure that there are only 100M of us that actually pay taxes here in the US. So every time the government says $1 billion dollars, that is $10 bucks out of your pocket. So -- what does $25 million cost you? Answer -- 25 cents. Yep, one lousy quarter. Tells you how badly the Bush administration really wants to deal with this situation. Which is, they don't.

Both countries pledged to boost patrols near the Arizona border, where many illegal immigrants have been assaulted while crossing.I haven't heard of any of us gringos assaulting any illegals in a very long time. However, they are frequently assaulted by other illegals or held for ransom by their coyotes.
Notice there isn't word one about the assaults on our people, burglaries, carjackings, property damage, etc. by the illegals. Nope, wouldn't be politically correct.
I'm developing a very healthy contempt for all political pissants.

Yep, one lousy quarter. Tells you how badly the Bush administration really wants to deal with this situation. Which is, they don't. That was pretty apparent about 2 or 3 months into this administration when I saw the relationship with Fox and when he made the 'just hardworking people wanting a better life' speech. He would have his amnesty if not for 9/11 and I think he is getting it piece by piece anyway without having to face the American people.

He was expected to unveil a program Friday that allows legal immigrants to apply for certain documents online and to attend a naturalization ceremony for about 4,000 immigrants at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. What is this all about? What certain documents? How does that enhance homeland security?
both countries pledged to boost patrols near the Arizona border, where illegal immigrants have been assaulted when crossing"
I guess they are not going to boost patrols where Americans have been assaulted, huh?
Did you notice that the government is in no way going to sanction or allow a boycott of Mexico? It won't happen - Why? Mexico has harmed us far more than France or Canada - and yet we are kowtowing to them. Do we not have a history of friendship with Canada? Will we in the future? Has Mexico ever supported us in anything? How does anyone classify Mexico as a friend - of America? That's a laugh!!!
I will say this, I do not know with all honesty how anyone can continue to support or have any faith in the President. I am talking faith that what he is doing is actually trying to preserve this country and its people. His action regarding illegals and Mexico has made me doubt each and every thing he does. It has such a detrimental effect on everything from security to education to healthcare - every aspect of our society and he does nothing - less than nothing - he encourages it. So how we we believe that anything he does otherwise is with the best interest of the country in mind?
I have to go to work now - so the ones who disagree can just shred me.

The following article was posted in www.mysanantonio.com yesterday.
Immigration help, border security linked
Associated Press
Web Posted:04/24/03 12:00AM
MEXICO CITY- Mexican Interior Secretary Santiago Creel said Wednesday his country would be willing to help with U.S. border security issues IF the United States affords better treatment for Mexican migrants.
Speaking before a scheduled Wednesday meeting with U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, Creel told the government news agency Notimex that helping undocumented workers get legal status would contribute to border security.
"It is much safer if Mexican migrants are allowed to enter with documents and work at legally recognized jobs," Creel said.

It would be relatively easy to stop illegal immigration coming from Mexico if there is the political will to do so. Until our Government acknowledges that stopping the flow of illegals is vital to our national security, nothing will get done. God only knows what and who is being smuggled.

It looks to me like this is the "WHOLE ENCHILADA".
Now they will be coming with documents for jobs that Americans are doing. No longer will you hear that they are just doing the jobs that lazy Americans won't do.
Why shouldn't they? Bush has given them free food stamps, free medical care, free education, free housing and just for their vote.

Next week, FReepers, Let him know how you feel with signs and flags..
I am not sure how aware President Bush is aware of how many Californians are not happy with the state of things when it comes to illegal immigration.
I'm not saying he is ducking the issue, but.. A Gentle Reminder may be in order as we Support Our Troops and President Bush.
Even Teddy Roosevelt made bad decisions , but he was still one of the better Presidents this nation has had.

I am furious that Bush has let Mexico slap our troops in the face.
I read the San Antonio and valley newspapers almost daily. Otherwise, we would never get the truth. Bush is doing the amnesty thing incrementally behind our backs.

I wish I could be there but I can't.
Bush will probably tell you how much they are doing in Haiti in protecting us from the Pakistanis.
Then he will insult us about our good friend, Mexico. Different strokes for different folks.

"But it is interesting that Mexico can at least put troops on the border -- but we don't."
I have heard from many government sources that we cannot place troops on the border because of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, 1848. Here it is and I can't find any restriction...

What about Texas, Arizona and New Mexico?
To hell with the criminal aliens. Toss out the ones we can find here now. Deport them for the next 20 years as they show up in jail and do not have legal status as of this date. American Citizens do NOT owe a single criminal illegal alien one u.S RED CENT, one single job, no free medical, no food stamps, no section 8 housing, no NOTHING.
