Well, frankly, it doesn't take that long to execute someone. Wat happens is the condemed file appeal after appeal (some states have manditory appeal laws, but there are convicts who have filed dozens of appeals) The federal Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act (1996 ?) limits the number, type and time to file appeals to dealth sentences. We'll see how long it takes to execute people under this law. But the guys who are there for 30 years have put themselves on death row by their crimes, and kept themselves there by their appeals.
