Absolutely. Is he referring to people shedding the virus or to the virus remaining viable on inanimate objects? Either way, it's a persistent bugger.

I don't read ALL of the threads. I read a few, and most assuredly NOT daily.
I read the responses, because you guys are funny.
Happy now ? I hope so, since " curiosty killed the cat; but, satifaction brought it back " and I didn't want you to drop dead because of me. ;^)

okay people, now is the time to buy some plastic and tape!,
don`t make it too tight or you will not be able to walk, drive or sit at work, and do not suffocate.

Canada has an unusually high rate of about 10% in spite of affluence and an excellent health systemHUH? Take our worst HMO down here, make the queue a little longer, and you have Canada. While you're at it, check out Mark Steyn's editorial Here
I'm not sure I'd go as far as he has in blaming Canada's death rate from SARS entirely on their health system, but he makes some valad points.

Very good points. Granted I may be more pessimestic than most on SARS, but this puppy appears to be one nasty, mutating viral b!tch. I didn't realize that immune compromised people were so asymptomatic at first, but it makes sense.

If curiosity were indeed the threat that you "hysterically" claim it to be, I'd have died generations ago.

I really wish the US would stop people coming into the country from affected areas.Jumbo jets are lined up across the ocean bringing in hundreds of potential carriers.
It's really no different than allowing millions of people to enter your country illegally, creating epic fraud and chaos.. Open borders and unchecked immigration are a time bomb......Bet the rent.

Good grief ... I was making a " funny " / lighthearted comment and now you're getting all huffy? Not only wasn't my little quote done with " hyteria ", it also used the the end of it, which most people don't know/don't use.
But then, you so enjoy this, why should I even ask you to take anything at all, in a nonserious way? LOL

As far as surviving pneumonia goes, it depends on successfully treating the cause or being able to maintain the patient until they can mount an immune defense. Pneumonia has many causes, and varying mortality.
What are you arguing here? That we who are health care workers--the first ones you'll see if you go to the ER with shortness of breath and a fever--should not discuss SARS or read about it, or have an opinion, or share that opinion? That to do so is somehow the equivalent of panic?
Or are you arguing that SARS is not real? Or that Americans won't get it, if it is?
HERE is where I learned about SARS, long before Dr. Julie Gerberding got on TV and said pretty much what was common knowledge on these threads:
1. There is no fast accurate test for SARS
2. There is no known effective treatment for SARS
3. We don't know what will happen with SARS in the traditional flu season this fall and winter.
4. There is no cure for SARS.
5. There is no vaccine for SARS.
6. The SARS virus can survive on surfaces for greater than four hours.
7. We do not know all the ways SARS is contagious. Blood, body fluids, respiratory droplets, fomites, and possibly aerosol are known, as is fecal presence of the coronavirus.
8. SARS is a constantly mutating virus.
9. We don't think it's biowarfare but we don't know for sure.
Every one of those things was discussed on these threads long before her press conference.

Don't attempt humor unless you are able to recognize it coming back at you.

Latest figures show that Sars has infected almost 4,649 people in 26 countries around the world and has claimed the lives of 275 people. So SARS deaths are still way behind deaths due to choking on hotdogs??

Yes, and all winter the number of trees in my yard is larger than the number of flowers.
