I think the figure is impossibly high. You will never see that kind of mortality rate in the First World. The Third World however, is a whole 'nother ball game.

Hong Kong has a per capita figure of about $26,000. Only a couple of thousand below Canada's.

I SO agree with you. As I have said, healthy people, who practice good hygiene should not be in mortal danger. If you should exhibit symptoms of SARS, you should isolate YOURSELF until you can see a doctor.
One article I read yesterday says this bug is not spread that easily. All cases in the US are the result of 1st degree contact with a person wwho has recently been in a known SARS country.

Don't count on it...the death rate will be just as high in the First World countries. We are talking about a death rate...WITH care. If the hospitals are full...or if they can not handle the number of cases coming in...then expect the death rate to be even higher.
