Maybe Germany still has a shred of decency within it, and is finally going to come around to the right side? If this ship thing is a big deal, it could help create a rift between France and Germany.

On April 27, 1941, Athens, Greece, surrenders to German forces without firing a shot. The Greeks give up to protect that city's monuments and buildings from bomb damage.
