I believe I did read somewhere that Orwell was a socialist. And I do not know, either, how he resolved these issues for himself; I've never studied the man...maybe one day I will.

If I remember Orwell saw the horrors of the left and was writing a warning. He was a reformed leftist. Hence Animal farm and 1984.
