This is off topic but: It occured to me while reading this story in the paper that I'd like to see a study on the number of civilian legal gun owners who use them in this way as compared to the number of cops who end up using them this way. I wonder because offhand I have the sense that cops seem to do this an awful lot.

The Chief of Police in my town just resigned after his third rather embarassing unintentional discharge of his duty weapon, a Glock 22. Let's see, he first capped off TWO rounds while reholstering his weapon at a civilian gym where he presumably had it secured in a locker. The rounds both impacted into said locker killing it instantly (lol). He then subsequently after a 6 month lapse without firing the weapon either intentionally or unintentionally, fired another round while in his private office bathroom, destroying the toilet bowl. It was later revealed that he had suffered other such discharges while in his previous job (same position as chief) in Tulsa OK (I think). So he resigned and took a job as a paid consultant to the dept. and tripled his former salary as chief. How nice. Who said only cops should have guns?
