Yes, Mt. McKinley is the highest mountain in North America, Susie, visible most days from Fairbanks; and I camped there in the summer of 1965, driving as close as Mile 125 at its feet.

We then set up our tent camper at Mile 88 - an overlook there has a scene so VAST one KNOWS "Who hath created these things!!"

There are no words to describe the very deep and intense feelings generated, acknowledging Him.

Now, the public is not allowed to go that far in (one of my sons took his family there last summer) - and has to see the National Park by bus, and not very close to it. It must have become too crowded, and persons were trashing the wilderness.

When we were there, the road in was not paved - NO AMENITIES, places to stay, restaurants, signs - nothing but unspoiled beauty.
