I'll bet the pilot will swell with pride when he approaches the Lincoln and tells that that Air Force One is requesting landing. Or would it be Navy One? I suspect Navy One. The swelling probably won't occur until after the trap, and will be preceeded by lots of sweating. ;)

Imagine the pilot though! He gets to fly Airforce 1! or should be navy 1?

I don't think he transitioned to either the F-4 or F-106 Correct, he did not transition. The transition, to the F-106, began near the end of his time with the unit, and someone made the reasonable decision not to train him in the new aircraft since the training would be wasted since he was leaving, by some accounts he had already left the unit by that time, by others he got to leave early since he could not longer fly the assigned aircraft.

Ford permanently assigned the mission to the Marine Corps after the Army dumped a VH-3 into the PotomacHadn't heard that before. Well Ford was an ex Navy man, IIRC.

What will be the callsign when a President finally flies into space? Space one? NASA One?

A different kind of landing...

consider what might happen if there is an accident. ... I'd rather have a live hero than a martyr. My first reaction was just like yours but on reflection the risk isn't that high and even if there is an accident we get Cheney. Granted he's not electable in '04 but there's plenty of time and many other well qualified possibilities.
I'm certain this has all been thought through.

And the Dems together with their media shills whining about how the President is "politicizing" the war. Let's see: Daschle is saddened, Lieberman is troubled, Kerry (after discovering his Jewish heritage to better compete with Lieberman) wants regime change in Washington, and Sharpton just wants to make trouble. Hehehehehehe...

And don't forget:
- He threw a perfect pitch to start the World Series just weeks after 9/11.
- He didn't react to 9/11 by sending a multimillion dollar missile up a camel's butt (wish I could remember the exact quote).
- He basically told the UN to go pound sand.
- He told Tom Brokaw that Chirac will not be visiting the ranch anytime soon.
- He actually enjoys being in the company of real people, and often puts his arm around average folks. Like when he put his arm around that retired firefighter atop the rubble at Ground Zero.
- He's able to show us his real tears and his steely backbone all at the same time.
- He reminded us that "an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm."

How soon before we hear from Clinton, that actually, he was going to make a wire landing, but Ken Starr and the VRWC prevented it??!!
Yeah. Bubba and the Leftists in academia are busy rewriting history already to say that actually he did a wire landing. Even flew the plane himself. But he didn't make it public for security reasons.
(The SOB is probably purple with envy, while that shrew pseudo-wife of his is getting more shrill by the day.)

I think it would be 21 bells. I believe I recall 19 bells for the SecNav.

Those are the numbers for gun salutes. 8 is the max number for bells and side boys in the USN.
