There have been sevearal ads running on a Maine tv stations praising Senator Snowe for her courage in opposing the Preisent and the American People by refusing to go along with a tax cut of substance. Have you wondered who is behind it?

Board of directors of those putting out the pro-snowe/anti- President Bush tax cut ads.

Why thanks, Rick Lazio.

Your strategy, running to the left of George Pataki, sure helped you against Hillary! Rodham Clinton didn't it?

Traitors are so much more annoying than enemies.

Well, she should take a basic econ class or at least revisit tax rate reduction history relative to income generation before opening her pie hole. If she doesn't want to be called stupid, she shouldn't say stupid things.

It's more than a little ironic that Susan Collins, who voted for the tax cuts, is also on the "Main St Partnership" board which is saying Olympia is good for voting AGAINST them.

Are there any conservatives in Maine that could be recruited to run against her? She, and other RINOs, give the GOP a bad name.

Not YET! She is on a six year term, and that isn't up for a few more years. I would give anything to have another Republican run against her. I am SO tired of wasting my vote on this evil witch. Her and Hitlery must be best friends...............

But put up another Conservative running against her, and they would have my vote, hands down. She just seems to have such a lock on Maine, that it's pathetic.

Snowe and Collins both voted in favor of NOT impeaching Billdo clintoon in Senate vote, even though, by the time the roll call got to them, he already was safe from impeachment. In other words, clinton didn't need their votes, BUT THEY WERE TICKLED PINK TO GIVE HIM THEIR VOTES ANYWAY. Real sickos!

... *(Sigh)*...

Ok, gang; let's go public, here;

This is the text of an e-mail letter I sent our very own Senator Snowe yesterday.

No doubt she will be just tickled freaking pink over it, but it won't be the first time by a long shot. Those of you who know me won't be a bit surprised, will you?

Oh - BTW; You might not want to have a mouthfull of beverage, etc., while reading this,... but here goes:

Senator Snowe:

It seems that you have joined one other "Republican" Senator in holding the Federal
Budget hostage in order to advance your demands for a limit of our President's proposed tax
relief program significantly below that which President Bush considers necessary to
stimulate America's economy.

You also seem to feel that American Government cannot "afford" a significant reduction,
which I suppose that $726 billion spread over ten years (assuming that it will not be reduced
or eliminated entirely well before then) represents.

Now I'm no bean counter by any means, but just what percentage of the total Federal
revenue per annum is $7.26 Billion.?
No doubt it's a lot more complicated than that, but simplification helps me get the picture.
And what percentage of the Gross National Product might that be?

And, on the precedent of President Reagan's tax cuts which increased Federal revenues
(according to Arizona Policy Choices ) "... an average rate of 8 percent a year" while
"Nominal federal tax receipts grew by 99 percent during the same period". (Oct. 1981- 90)
and "During the seven years of the Reagan tax cut era, gross national product (GNP) grew 31
percent in real terms 3.8 percent a year, (and) ...Real disposable income per capita grew by
nearly a fifth.", might we not expect similar, significant returns for a similar reduction in
taxes?

And we "CAN'T AFFORD" THAT ?

Really?

Might you care to elaborate on the rational and credible justification for your determined
opposition to our President?

Tell me, if you can, Senator; did you or anyone else (including the centers of Government
in Augusta or Yarmouth) inquire of us or any other of your Maine Constituents who, as you
might be aware, are the most heavily taxed Americans of any State of the Union (according
to what I hear at the Cumberland County Republican Committee Meetings I attend) -
whether WE could "afford" to pay the most egregious, confiscatory taxes levied upon any
Citizen in the United States prior to imposing them?

And yet Government continues to spend the fruits of America's labor on some of the most
flagrant "pork" programs of it's sordid fiscal history!

As if programs such as these are essential to the survival of American Democracy and
enterprise;

$732,000 for the Center for Designing Foods in Ames, Iowa;
$560,000 for the Sheep Institute in Bozeman, Montana;
$202,500 for a new agricultural arena at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in
Dothan, Alabama;
$90,000 for the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas.
$900,000 for renovation of the Plaza Theater in El Paso, Texas;
$405,000 to the Soccer League in Staten Island, New York;
$180,000 for the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston, Maine; (Now THERE"S
a Winner!)
and $500,000 for catfish health in Stoneville, Mississippi.

Would you like more examples? Check out: http://www.ccagw.org/ .
They have oodles of them.

And did you happen to ASK any of US if WE could AFFORD all or any of this largesse?

I didn't think so, frankly.

Instead, you hold a figurative pistol to the head of the Veteran's Administration, as well as
all of the other routine hostages used by the liberal left and socialists whenever Taxpayers
take umbrage at being shaken down all the harder by our Government;
you know - the "Poor", the "Elderly", the "Children", the "Uninsured" and the like.

The novelty of these tactics is beginning to wear off, don't you think?

It's amazing how things like the "Franco American Center" seem to be afforded more
protection than the American Bald Eagle up here in Maine, while the most vulnerable among
us are dangled on the end of a noose in order to make us feel guilty that we don't pay even
MORE taxes.

It reminds me of a certain Governor we once had who seemed to be quite adept at using
the Mentally Disabled Residents at Pineland Center, where I was charged with the care of
same for some 12 years, as political pawns for his clever fiscal schemes.
It was a practice which I found to be personally repugnant and deplorable at the time, but
which seems to be only one example of routine political strategy in Augusta, as well as
Washington DC, apparently.

For some reason, we do not seem to see nearly as much of this sort of intrigue and
exploitation going on in the current Presidential Administration - although it remains a
standard component, as we might expect, of our antagonists on the left....
As well as for a few ...*ahem*... "Republicans" who seem to be taking their lead not so much
from President George W. Bush as they might be from Hillary Rodham Clinton or Ted
Kennedy.

It stands to reason, I believe, that the President's proposed tax cuts, including the
elimination of "double taxation" on dividends (at the very least) combined with sound fiscal
responsibility and accountability in Government would, as he contends, infuse
much-needed incentive into our National economy and do much to relieve our national
economic malaise and stagnation.

Please reconsider your opposition to our President's initiative for economic growth and
prosperity in America. It just might work, and I for one rather think that it would - if
allowed to.

Who knows; it might even spread all the way to Maine.

We surely could use it!

Thank you for your consideration.

In response to your musings about potential Conservative contenders for Sen. Snowe's Congressional seat -

Yes, I agree; I think that she does give the GOP a "bad name"... but that depends on which GOP you're coming from, I suppose.

You see, here in Maine (as I suspect it might be in other places as well) we not only have "two Maines", or the gentrified / urban / touristy / generally liberal Southern Coastal vs. the more agricultural / rural / traditional / Conservative Northern inlands, but we seem to have at least two GOPs as well.

Senator Snowe and, to a somewhat similar degree, Senator Collins, both represent one of them.

That would be the all-inclusive, progressive, "Big Tent", "Get 'em elected and forget about their ideology" faction, which is firmly entrenched in the conviction (somewhat like an Article of Faith) that the slightest hint of "conservatism" anywhere near any Candidate is the certain kiss of political doom.

Maine is a liberal state, and none but a liberal candidate need apply here. All that matters is that they have an "R" after their name; that way we score a point... don't we?

As much as I hate to admit it, by the looks of things they may be on to something.

Most Maine activists who manage to gin up the utter audacity to associate with the Republican Party and confess to God and everybody else ideals and principles that most of us here on FR hold near and dear find themselves quickly marginalized, especially down here in yuppie PC-Maine.

Thanks be to Providence (and not the one in Rhode Island, either) we manage to get a few of them into Augusta - although they seem to maintain a chronic minority - but beyond that the odds become exponentially remote.

And even at that, there is one ideological social issue which even they had best keep very tight to the vest if they ever hope to stand a ghost of a chance in politics.

Guess what that is ?

Oh; before I go...

6 reasons why Sen. Olypia Snowe's incumbancy is virtually assured in perpetuity (if she lives that long... and she just might!):

* Budget Committee.

* Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee.

* Chair: Oceans and Fisheries Subcommittee

* Finance

* Chair: Health Care Subcommittee.

* Small Business Committee.

Is there any way a President or Senate Majority Leader can boot a Senator off of a Committee, or switch them to another - like the "Horticulture and Chicken-Counting Subcommittee" or some such?

Probably not, eh? I was afraid as much.

If any "Real Republican" (now that's gonna get some knickers twisted... again) would like to step up to the Primary plate and take a swing at her seat, God bless 'em; they'll have my vote, and probably at least 3 or 4 dozen others to go with it!

But y'know, the big money here in Maine ain't gonna be on 'em. And that's just the way it am, sorry to say.

I would love to have one of you prove me wrong about that.
At least TRY, fer cryin' out loud!
