Dear Mr. President - An Open Letter from Silicon Valley for Your Visit This Morning
Mercury News ^ | 5/2/03 | Editorial

Edited on 04/13/2004 3:31:03 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

You might notice the traffic is a little lighter today than the last time you were here. That's because we've run into a tough patch here in the Silicon Valley.

But before we get into that, we want to offer congratulations on the war in Iraq. We hope you'll leverage that victory -- by applying the same focus to the economy and to the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.

NorCal has always been whiney; the Murky News has always been depressing. If it isn't the economy, it's the great Satan down south, the water, the redwoods, etc. Complain, complain - egads. Glad I moved out 25 years ago - my family's still up there though. We made it through the aerospace meltdown of the 90s and are now flying high again. If OC & SD could break away, we'd be all set.

What.. you don't think the California Democrats are going to own up to 30 years of malfeasance, bribes, fradulant elections, and speadthrift tax-and-spend politic aimed at benefiting fellow Democrats?

OF COURSE it's the Republican's fault. If Al Gore were in office, and Bush was off picking up cow pies somewhere in Texas, like he should be, California's budget would be balanced, and Gray(out) Davis would be heading to Washington to help Al do the same fine job for the rest of America!

< /end sarcasm > (... and begin reality. Ow...ouch..where's my bottle ...my head hurts)

FReegards.. SFS

If I was president, I'd have four words for them:

Piss up a rope.

Hey SVBoys, if you're looking for sympathy you can find it between s#%t and syph###is in the dictionary.

Nobody begrudged you your inflated wages when you were able to garner them, and now nobody is going to feel your pain in this period of 'adjustment', with the possible exception of fat boy bill.

Per carita, lodge your complaints/requests with him!

I like the fact that you refer to him as 'Winnie', and by the way 'Winnie' is my all time favorite Tory/Conservative.

I have read a book or two, by and about him. England deserted him after WW2 but he never deserted England. I'd like to hear what he would have to say about the UN and today's allies and today's liebral socialists.

Also, one of my sunday school teachers was named Winnie. and of course, there is the Winnie of all Winnies.. Pooh :-)

You know I was so offended when England flew their flag at half staff during Diana's end days. Not because I disliked the Princess, but because they had not even done that for 'Winnie'. And I thought to myself if you wouldn't do it for him, how can you justify doing it for her?

He saved England, and possibly the world, because he was so ahead of the foreign affairs curve at the time.

Another thing that always endeared Winston Churchill to me was his admission that he suffered from a 'black dog' of melancholy. And as I was predisposed to that as well, I fancied my afflicted self sharing great, great company.

hi tech management created its own problems. in one word:

greed.

for one thing, they were paying salaries in 2000 that were unsustainable. i remember a friend's daughter with an mba paying $800,000 for a run-down shack, a 1960s 2-bdrm, in san jose. we asked ourselves, how much longer can this madness continue?

out-bidding each other for labor had one immediate consequence--sending jobs off shore.

This open letter from Silicon Valley is right out of the House Democrats Economic Stimulus plan.

I was forwarded the .pdf of it when I contacted my democrat congresscritter, Zoe Lofgren. This was in response to a H1-B visa email that I wrote, saying she should not vote for raising H1-B visa limits, and maybe even lower them some more.

I sent a rebuttal to the first 2 points of the democrat plan... I doubt she will read it.

We've lost 200,000 jobs in two years;

And for that you can thank the Clinton dot.com bubble.

By the way, this is one of the most whiney-assed pieces of crap that I've read in my life. Can you imagine what they will write once the Gray Davis disaster really begins to hit Californicate?

Can't say what I want to happen first: California's fiscal disaster or a complete separation of the San Andreas fault, which would eventually move California outside our 12 mile limit.

California has the largest deficit of any state in the nation. It seems inevitable we're going to get hit with higher taxes -- and far fewer services.

And this needs to be written to the person responsible for this, not President Bush. Gray Davis, who was reelected by idiots like you has taken this state from a surplus to bankruptcy.

When the Silicon Valley had the ups on everybody in the chip
business I did not hear (hey lower the price so other folks
can have a fast computer) I have not heard too much from your area about had bad you folks bash Pres. Bush. (No sorries) I have never been to Calf. and I never want to go. If you are having a bad time of it, leave and find work elsewhere. As for the can we get along bit, I don't think you are serious or else you would not have brought it up.
Your line - is it something we've said - sounds mocking.
However, Pres. Bush is also your President and he will
see to it that you get what your area is entitle to. No more no less.

OK, Mercury News, let's talk about the unemployment rate among the over-45 workers and let's talk about the H1B visas, huh? Or is that too close for comfort, like a mirror you don't ever want to face?!
