[history]
Standing next to British prime minister Tony Blair at a public appearance in Belfast last month, President Bush should have been a vision of serenity. The war in Iraq was going superbly; just 19 days had passed, and already coalition troops were inside Baghdad, on the verge of giving him his second military victory as president. The hunt was on for chemical weapons, the original argument for going to war. And Bush, with his best ally by his side, was crossing new frontiers as a world leader, committing to talks on peace in Northern Ireland and the Middle East.

*** Ask his critics to explain how Bush operates, and the phrase they come up with most often is "my way or the highway," bullyish words it is possible to imagine Bush using himself. White House advisers delicately call it leadership, but there is a proud feeling in the corridors of the West Wing that Bush has accomplished more of his agenda with his swagger and determination than Bill Clinton ever did by being nice. ***
So, that's what you call it.

No Democrat bolts from pack*** The event, which was moderated by George Stephanopoulos, at times appeared amateurish because of microphone problems and a stage that looked thrown together by a high school drama class. It was sponsored by ABC, but the television network decided against airing it live. The Washington affiliate opted to air "Gladiator," the movie about great battles in the Roman Coliseum.***

What a relief to have a man in that office who has the integrity of convictions and will stand by them. I am a woman who is relieved that the "wimp" factor in men is now being viewed for exactly for what it is..Cowardice.

September 11 changed how things were going to be done.He said what was going to happen and then went about doing what he promised. It's called having a plan and implementing it. This a long term plan and 30% reduction in terror attacks last year is hopeful. Now if one wants to call that my way or the highway..go for it.

Three years before the elder Bush's backbone was questioned, Barbara Bush stunned the political world with a daring insult to her husband's Democratic rival for the vice presidency, Geraldine Ferraro. "I can't say it, but it rhymes with rich," Barbara Bush said of Ferraro. She later apologized and insisted she had meant Ferraro was a witch, not the profanity everyone had assumed.
My favorite Bush. Bar rocks!!!

Just another Angry White Male. The title is so great. The Left loves to define their opposition.

Indeed, upon entering politics in 1994, Bush seemed to assume a new persona altogether: the living embodiment of "compassionate conservatism," an ideology whose very name suggests docility and reasoned compromise. Why? Seems to me compassion, to be effective, requires strength.

Bush acts on his compassion. The Left only talks and talks and talks about it.

We have two supervisors that we have nicknamed Ali and Babba. Because that is their style. They lie and cheat to stay out of trouble when they are caught in the act of bad policy etc.
So, what this writer has tried to describe in negative ways, I call determination, leadership, character and morals. He is not the antithesis of his father but he is the antithesis of Clinton.
To that I say, Thank God.

Bush hates protests even more than most presidents. Oh, so Ms. Kornblut, President Bush told you this? Or are you simply putting your own opinion into a so-called news story? This article is full of words and phrases like this. Her use of certain words is designed to portray Bush as the typical mean-spirited Republican the democrats love to hate. This is propaganda rubbish.

Well, so much for "he's just a puppet for Cheney and Rumsfeld"... or do they manage to believe conflicting views simultaneously? Maybe they do, because they can't even parse a phrase:
the living embodiment of "compassionate conservatism," an ideology whose very name suggests docility and reasoned compromise.
Oh, really? Is that what it suggests? It isn't what it suggests to me! (Tough Love is what it suggests to me, and haunting memories of a parent saying "this is going to hurt me more than it hurts you." LOL!!)

Not nearly as much airbrushing on this book jacket as on the Hillary book coming out. Barbara must not be as vain.
