May 4, 2003 -- A tough 11-year-old Bronx boy is lucky to be alive after a stray bullet that could have killed him miraculously bounced off his skull.

"I think his hair stopped the bullet," his father Leon Carter said, referring to the dreadlocks that are his boy's pride and joy.

This is the price completely innocent people pay for the policy of conducting a War on Drugs. It happens every day, everywhere in America, that completely innocent people are murdered, maimed, robbed and burglarized because the profits from drug selling, and the cost of drug buying, are astronomically high due exclusively to their illegality.

Drug warriors apparently never seem to say in a straightforward way, that the widespread terror inflicted on completely innocent people is an acceptable consequence of their policy.

I'll say! And when will gun manufacturers take resposnibility for the tools of destruction they arm us with? And when will "big sugar" take responsibility for our morbid obesity?

And when will "big sugar" take responsibility for our morbid obesity?

So you are on record as saying you endorse a policy which results in an elderly couple getting tortured to death for their social security money, by some drug addict who needs to buy a substance whose price is grossly inflated by drug policy?

The is only two soulutions to the drug problem. The first
solution is legalization and rehab for those that desire it. This will take the profit and crime out of the game. Also with a cheap supply of high quality drugs many of the druggies will "off" themselves and humanity will be a better place with far less crime.

The other solution is quite simple. If you use drugs you are offered rehab or jail. If you sell drugs your first offense is a short sentence (1 year) in solitary. The second offense is life without parole or the death sentence depending on which state you live in.

At one time Singapore had the worst drug problem in the world. They opted for the second solution. They no longer have a drug problem.

Societies first obligation is to protect the innocent, NOT THE CRIMINAL.

The drug dealers will always have guns. If all else fails, they can smuggle them into the country disguised as a routine cocaine shipment

The facts of life are that a drug dealer can make thousands of dollars per day in income, but if he's unable to defend himself, his stash, and his cash, then he's out of business. Therefore, a dealer will (and can) pay whatever it takes to stay armed. Will a lowly paid Army sergeant reject a bagful of cash to look the other way while gang members drive away a truck full of military guns? What will a cop's life be worth when the gun on his belt can be sold for a couple thousand $$$ by any crackhead who can sneak up on him, smash a pipe over his head and take his gun?

Exactly. Completely innocent people are murdered, maimed, robbed and burglarized every day because of drug policy. If we changed that policy, those innocent people would not suffer.

And why should they suffer to prevent some moron from doing drugs?

I agree wholeheartedly. But, try to get a drug addict into a detox center for a couple of weeks. There's not enough beds. I say, legalize drugs, which will take the profit out of the drug trade. Then, give anyone who wants help the help and facilities they need.

I didn't read the aricle posted by a FReeper, but it was questioning MN new CCW and how police think it will bring about the wild west!

Send these cops to this city for what the wild west looks like without good citizens being allowed to protect themselves.
