Bush should have spent that money teaching science so that this issue will go away. Guess you didn't watch the State of the Union address. Bush is, unfortunately, firmly on the hydrogen bandwagon.

On the wrong path and for the wrong reasons. The car companies would rather avoid the CAFE standards and instead let taxpayers fund the next generation of car research, so they love the idea of "Freedom Car". The environmentalists love the hydrogen economy hype because they are willing dupes for any dream that is anti-oil.
But the loser here is the taxpayer - more wasted $$$ on wrongheaded research. The hydrogen car is a pipe-dream, and chasing inevitably harms our ability to advance towards more practical goals.
