DUESSELDORF, Germany (AP): A 24-year-old man who was detained walking down a shopping street with his sister-in-law's severed head in one hand and a knife in the other was being questioned Wednesday by prosecutors.

Police found the 25-year-old woman's bloody torso Tuesday in her apartment in the village of Uebach-Palenberg near the Belgian-Dutch border in western Germany.

Neighbors said they had heard the woman screaming in the apartment during an argument with the suspect. Shortly afterward, police stopped the man as he walked down the village shopping street carrying the women's head and a 30-centimeter (12-inch) kitchen knife.

"We cannot say anything definite yet about the motive or the exact sequence of events,'' said Robert Deller, a prosecutor in the western city of Aachen.

The man, an ethnic Albanian from the Serb province of Kosovo, was being questioned through an interpreter, Deller said. An autopsy on the woman's body was scheduled later Wednesday.

"...an ethnic Albanian"

I'll bet its some Albanian blood-feud thing. This is their whole culture. They make the Hatfields and McCoys look like the New World Backwoods amatuers they were.

I also think an insanity defense might work here.

I'm wondering if this fine Albanian gentleman was one of the refugees that Germany took in as a sign of good will. It would also be interesting to know if he had been a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army, that fine band of Merry Men who are engaged in sex slavery, prostitution, murder, kidnapping and drugs.

"We cannot say anything definite yet about the motive or the exact sequence of events,'' said Robert Deller, a prosecutor in the western city of Aachen.

The web site of Der Spiegel also has this quote from Deller:

"Natürlich ist das nicht normal, wenn jemand seiner Schwägerin den Kopf abschneidet und damit dann auch noch in der Fußgängerzone herumläuft."

Translation: "It is not normal, of course, when someone cuts off his sister-in-law's head and then brandishes it in the downtown shopping area."

The evidence is only circumstantial, after all. Perhaps he simply found the severed head and the knife lying there. Happens to me all the time.
