Bush Says Carrier Visit Was Positive Associated Press

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Wednesday that his visit to the USS Abraham Lincoln was an "unbelievably positive experience" but he sidestepped Democratic criticism that his jet landing on the aircraft carrier was undignified.

Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., charged Tuesday that Bush's landing aboard a Viking jet on May 1 was "extravagant" and "self-congratulatory."

Asked Wednesday at a news conference about the criticism, Bush said the visit itself was an honor.

"I appreciated the chance to thank our troops. It was an unbelievably positive experience," Bush said. "Not only was I able to thank our troops, I was able to speak to the country and talk about not only their courage, but the courage of a lot of other men and women who wear our country's uniform. I'm glad I did it."

Next time President Bush needs to ride out to the carrier on Shamu, Sea World's famous killer whale. That will send the animal rights activist to an early grave.

Did you ever stop to think, Mr. KKK, that it wasn't self-congratulatory, but congratulatory, firing up not only the crew of the Abraham Lincoln, but all the armed forces? It was the same when he visited Ground Zero and vowed that the terrorists were going to hear us soon, all the while with his arm draped over a firefighter. Those workers were electrified by his presence.

George W. Bush is a man of the people and you RATs cannot stand it. Nor you can't understand it. The accolades you receive are based on your position and the largesse you throw at people; Bush's accolades are for the man he is. Any President visiting the troops would be cheered out of respect for the office alone, but not any President would be mobbed the way this President was. You may have noticed that the excitement went across all ranks, both on the crew's part and the President's. He didn't talk and pose only with the fighter pilot royalty, he talked and posed with everyone there.

George W. Bush's flight with its tailhook landing was a powerful and profound statement to the crew, the armed forces, the country and the world. Supporters and lovers of freedom were elated and energized, those on the other side who hate freedom were angered and dismayed. Once again, Bob, you're part of a group that hates. Old habits are hard to break, eh?
