Sea Lion may have been a joke--but we didn't know that at the time, and there really wasn't a British Army able to fight in 1940.

It would have been the ultimate asymmetric conflict--can tactical airpower, a far superior army, and an improvised amphib force have won out over tactical airpower, an outstanding navy, and an army that was a shadow of what it had been a year earlier?

It would have been interesting to see how a major air drop (a la Crete)would have factored into Sea Lion.

-can tactical airpower,

That's what makes Operation Sealion a joke. A tactical air force with no army to support. No German strategic air force. If Hitler was a military genius, one would not know it by his examples.

No the real German Ace would have been
their powerfull German paratrooper
corps and there huge number of guilders
that could have brought in significant
infantry foces.

In a air fight over the Channel and
beaches the German Air Force would
have (and in history almost did(
gained air supremecy, the Battle
of Britian was really lost by
the lack of German focus in
the air attacks and the huge
mistake of shifting to the London
attacks.

And grabbing beachheads force
the Royal Navy
into the Channel and then
its a Navy vs. Airforce
and Subs in a Channel.
And history has only give one
answer as to what happens
then, the Navy sinks.
