They did let us do some excersises there post Afghanistan, pre Iraqi Freedom. One problem we had with the locals was that our trainning grounds there had cut them off from their suppy of "Kot"(sp), a plant they chew on for a buzz like caffein. That was resolved easily and our excersises were finished. Can't find article, but here is some info:

The shrub you're referring to is usually spelled khat (as if there is a usual spelling for arab words, eh? :). Rather than a 'buzz like caffeine', the active ingredient in khat is more pharmacologically related to amphetamines - it'll keep ya up & alert for days whilst waiting in a tree for things worth killing to pass by :>).
