Saddam flouted the very surrender agreement (that cost numerous Merkin lives). Merkin lives?
The UN sanctions (along with precluding Iraqi possession of WMD's) ALSO included a respect for human rights, a fair and equitable distribution of Iraqi oil wealth, and an end to political hegemony by the Bathists.
There are also questions about our possession of WMD's, our respect for human rights, (particularly since we imprison more people proportionately than any other country) and our political hegemony by the Republicrats.
Regarding:
a fair and equitable distribution of Iraqi oil wealth
Do we in the United States have a fair and equitable distribution of our own oil wealth?

A question worthy of Ralph Nader.

I know this will come as a shock but the Iraqi government and ours was a bit different. When we start cutting off ears and tongues ,gasing our political opponents, doing torture, imprisoning people who grumble about the leader, executing dissidents, holding one candidate elections then we'll see.
