There are two sides to every story.

There are two sides to every piece
of flypaper, too, and the fly must be
damned careful which one he lands on.

Why would you think there is another side to the story?

You worry me. Deeply. If you think there is just one side of ANY story, you must be under ten years of age, a liberal, or stupid beyond help. There are at least two sides, and often many more.

I was sitting on a jury recently, an assault case. During deliberations, we were poling each other. One woman said "I KNOW he's guilty."

Someone asked "How can you know that?"

This genius smugly replied "Just look at his face!"

How hard would it be for the local police department to write a nice letter, on official police department stationary, and send it out to all the neighbors informing them of the false charge and making those same points about the false posters. Plus including the notices of legal penalties for the false accusation. This guy could cover the cost of the postage and printing.

That would at least let the neighbors know what was wrong. At least some of them might change their behavior.

It's simple - how were the flyers distributed? If they were placed in mailboxes, that's a federal offense, and surely someone has a security cam that will show who came by and dropped them off. If the flyers were placed on doors, same thing. If the flyers were handed out personally, then that's a no-brainer. In this world, someone should remember how they received the flyers.

If they police won't interview, then this family should hire a private investigator to do it for them; I guarantee you SOMEONE knows how those flyers came to land in their hand.

Crimes like this should be punished by more than a low fine and only a year of jailtime.

I agree, this is one of the big ten, Thou shalt not bear false witness.

Has anyone tried calling the phone number? It's listed as the Coral Gables Police, but I doesn't sync up with the other numbers listed for Coral Gables PD. (305-460-XXXX)

Perhaps a little ring-up would do... whoever circulated this flyer wanted to know when he was out of town... Checking now. It is a fax line. Whose fax is it???

The Phone # is a landline in Perrine, Fla. Who does he know in Perrine, or is that just a red herring?

Correction - it appears to be a computer number, a dial-up perhaps.
