Either the Republicans are brilliant or the Democrats are unbelievably stupid.
Before too much gloat, consider Estrada, Owens, Pickering and roughly half (or less)of the President's desired tax cut. No, the Democrats aren't completely stupid since they can control the Senate with only 41 members, nor is the Republican majority particularly brilliant since they don't know they are now the majority party in the Senate.

The tax cut is in trouble because of the RINOs Snowe and (from my home state, sad to say) Voinovich. There isn't a majority of Senators who agree with Bush on this.
And as far as the judicial nominations go, the 'Rats aren't controlling the Senate; they are blocking action for the moment. It's not over yet.

I didn't get to see the interview - but Brit Hume was talking to some guy who was explaining about the challenge of the 60 vote rule in the Senate. I heard Brit say - "it appears the dems will be the loser here", and the guy said, "yes"! That can only be good news.
The recent "meeting" in the oval office must have been orders from headquarters about what to do. Bush is patient, but he gave the dems plenty of time to do what is right - now the hammer comes down. They never learn!
