Also, in practically every country where guns are tightly controlled, the crime and murder rates are significantly less per capita. Is this not a true fact. I'd like to see some opposing information.

Explain Switzerland. Machine guns in many homes and a very low crime rate.

Now Japan has a very low crime rate and no guns. They also have acquittal rate <1%.

Odd that you worry about the Patriot Act but also wish to disarm the citizenry. Don't you trust the government?

Please excuse my ignorance, but what EXACTLY is an assault weapon??

Basically, it's a semi-automatic rifle, which accepts a detachable magazine and has more than one of the following features:

a folding or telescoping stock;

a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

a bayonet mount;

a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor;

and a grenade launcher.

There are similar restrictions on some semi-auto shotguns and some pistols.

In the words of the great Oleg.

They will never ban your hunting rifle. They'll call it a sniper rifle first.

Is Afghanistan any safer because they all carry guns?

I'm not arguing for safety, I'm arguing for freedom.

Oh yeah, what does 'well regulated militia mean to you'? Try this sentence: Books, being neccesary to a well educated populace, the right of the people to keep and read books shall not be infringed.

Now, if the populace ceases to be well-educated does this mean the people no longer have a right to keep and read books ?

'well regulated militia mean to you'

If you look up the term in the books of the time it meant: Well prepared, well functioning.

In modern parlance: Ready to rock

Remember this was prior to the create of the welfare state.

I don't understand the incessant need for semi automatic weapons. They're not needed for hunting (You don't deserve to be in the NRA if you need a m16 to kill a deer) and their only function is to kill people.

What about self-defense? Having a gun contributes to my safety. An armed populace is a safe populace.

You're analogy fell short.

Your english fell short.

The United States had a clear technological advantage in Vietnam, but due to ineffective Democratic leadership in the White House coupled with North Vietnam's guerilla tactics led to an American defeat.

Never underestimate the will to fight coupled with the means to resist. The Second Amendment guarantees that means.

If you notices, I NEVER said the 2nd amendment should be repealed.

What you want amounts to the same thing. If not, explain yourself.

"The bill of rights didn't expressly give Blacks and Women equal status in this country. It took amendments to do that. The constitution was designed to be maleable and fit to modern times."

Irrelevant.

"I think the NRA uses this fear of the big bad government to protect their billion dollar industry lobby."

Since Leftists like you are so fond of repeating this nonsense, you might be kind enough to cite the PROOF that the NRA (a hundred-year-old gun safety and training organization, composed of four million INDIVIDUALS) is, in fact, a "gun industry lobbying group". While the goals of each frequently overlap, you guys NEVER SEEM TO PROVIDE PROOF. Repetition is not proof, BTW.

" Also, in practically every country where guns are tightly controlled, the crime and murder rates are significantly less per capita. Is this not a true fact. I'd like to see some opposing information."

In Britain and Australia, gun crime rose signifigantly with the passage of strict gun control, and continues to do so. This is verified. Conversley, Switzerland and Israel enjoy relatively little street crime, and firearms are widely owned by civilians.

That's what you get when you confuse feeling with thinking, pal.

The Service Rifle matches in this country for decades were supported by Congress so that the country would have trained and able bodied men to defend this country.

A dozen or so years ago, the anti-gun libs cut the funding. If the legislation is passed, every single rifle that is used for those competitions will be banned.

It has nothing to do with crime. It has all to do with control. The day the Service Rifle competitions in this country cease to exist, this will no longer be a free country.

Your post is probably more of an idictment of the public school system than a reflection of your intelligence, but the second amendment does not protect the right of gun ownership for hunting. It is to protect the people from a government that attempts to overstep its bounds. In light of that, assault weapons aren't a luxury, they're a necessity.
