Mike, you are SO right!

Today while I was shopping for clothes, a woman struck up a conversation.

After we chatted about clothes and raising children a bit, she said she was worried about her children BECAUSE: “You know, I’m really worried about what our President is doing. I’m so afraid that he started something and we’re in more danger now than before 9/11.” Then she spoke about the terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia, and said it wouldn’t have happened except for Bush.

Believe me, I started praying for the right words, and I talked and talked. One thing I was SO grateful for was having read here on FR that some group had studied the terrorists acts and found that there were less of them in 2002 than in any of the previous ten years. Of course I told her that. And I said everything that I could think of to convince her that President Bush is doing the right thing.

FRUSTRATION: No matter what I said, she seemed doubtful.
I can only pray that some of what I said sunk in.

Oh, my God! How I was wishing you people had been there with me.

And how thankful I am for all the discussions we’ve had.

kitkat - Winston Churchill defended his position by saying this...

"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last."

Tell the next person that you'd just like to not be eaten at all, and you like the fact that our President agrees with you on that one.

I know - they are so aggrevating, you just want that key phrase or two to stop 'em in their verbal tracks. It's difficult when we all have so much emotion tied up in the passion for good and right and true--all that our President represents to us that can see the truth.

AND...ask God to help you find the right words - he's a great script writer ;-)

It sounds to me like you did a great job of speaking up for the RIGHT side with that moron woman. Although I relish the fun and fellowship, what I most appreciate about FR is that it enables me to arm myself with the truth .... with facts and information that those who only watch the lamestream media never have access to.

Good for you.
Good for you.
Good for you!

"He who walks with wise men will be wise." (Proverbs 13:20a)

Some people are naturally pessimistic and fearful. It sounds like the shopper carried a lifestyle of being fearful into the store and the only fear she felt comfy discussing with a stranger was her fear that Bush was a bungler and that it would result in ... blah blah blah.

Just know that even though you were nipping the dandelion fluff and unable to pull it out at the root, you dusted some very powerful weed killer onto that lady's fears. It will have an effect on her. But I dare say, till she can deal with her roaming phobias, she'll still be "afraid" of W and his crazy foreign policies.

Just the fact that you were not a candidate to bolster her misguided opinions was a triumph in itself, and you gave her some very good info. The poor thing probably doesn't know the TV goes past Channel 13. She'll at least probably repeat your words to sound more informed at her next opportunity, and the word will be spread that way.
