It won't stay that way for too long. How many people could have identified Clinton at this stage of the game (May, 1991)? Obscurity is the best thing that Edwards and Dean have going for them. They'll look like fresh faces to throngs of adoring Rat voters if they get the nomination a bit more than a year from now.

The biggest thing we have to be hopeful about, is that whoever does grab this wretched prize will probably have alienated a lot of Rats along the way. That's pretty much how the scenario worked in 1972, McGovern schemed his way to the nomination, and Nixon's convention looked like a love fest. Nixon was never as popular with voters as GWB is now, but folks went with the more calming image.
