Now, why would you say a thing like that? Just because the guy signed up in the past few days, and posts what he considers to be a link to some good (albeit left-wing) information that paints Clinton as a never-impeached victim, and Reagan as insane, is no reason to think he's a commie-pinko...

On second thought, you do have a point ;0)

The year 1991 was the most tragic in the entire history of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics... By March, the process of disintegration had passed the point of no return and nothing could possibly be done to prevent the country's breakup. President Mikhail Gorbachev made a last-ditch attempt to remedy the situation by signing on August 20 a revised Union Treaty. Scheduled to return to Moscow from his Crimean retreat where he was vacationing with his family, Gorbachev was put under virtual arrest right in his Black Sea villa. In the morning of August 19, the state radio and television made a surprise announcement saying that the President was ill, his reforms in a dead end and full power reverting to the State Emergency Committee. Later in the day army troops were ordered into Moscow...
The leader of the biggest Soviet republic, the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin, spearheaded the public resistance to what appeared to be a full-blown coup. On August 20 protest rallies were held across Russia and elsewhere in the country. Part of the top military brass ignored the orders coming from the State Emergency Committee. The following day, realizing that their attempt had fallen though, the coup leaders flew down to the Crimea to tell the arrested President Gorbachev how sorry they were. The plotters were all arrested and shortly after that, Gorbachev returned to Moscow...
The further unraveling of the once united country and the federal government's inability to reverse the snowballing process of general disintegration prompted the leaders of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus to meet at the Viskuli state residence near Brest, and establish the Commonwealth of Independent States. The agreement said that the Soviet Union had ceased to exist as an independent political entity... On December 25 Mikhail Gorbachev resigned as the first and last Soviet President and, later that same day the Soviet flag flying over the Grand Kremlin Palace was lowered and replaced by the white, blue and red Russian tricolor...
