Al Qaeda Arms Traced to Saudi National Guard

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, May 18 -- Saudi authorities are investigating suspected illegal arms sales by members of the country's national guard to al Qaeda operatives in the country, U.S. and Saudi officials said.

The weapons were seized in a May 6 raid on an al Qaeda safe house and were traced to national guard stockpiles, the U.S. and Saudi sources said.

The Saudi interior minister said today that officials have identified three of the suicide bombers involved in attacks last week on four residential compounds in Riyadh, which led to the deaths of 34 people, including eight Americans. He said they were part of a group of 19 people wanted in connection with the May 6 raid.

Actually, I would bet the King and such like us because we give them money, and they want more of it. But, the lower classes, they hate us.

Race I know you're not going to believe this, but in my experience in the Kingdom, and is it is fairly extensive, I very often found the exact opposite to be true. Many of the terrorists are very wealthy, e.g. Osama bin Laden, or the educated sons of wealthy families.

There is a dirty little secret about Saudi Arabia, though. Over the past 35 years or so, the population has skyrocketed from 5 Million or so to over 25 Million. Because of polygamy among cousins, the birth defect rate is staggering. Many congenital eye problems, kidney problems, mental problems. This cuts across all social lines, but the better educated seek wives from Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, and the West in their attempt to reverse this recognized problem. But it's going to take a long time. Bottom line: a lot of Saudis are cross-eyed, crazy as coots, need dialysis, are filthy rich, and very apt to be involved in terrorist activity.

The officials emphasized that the motivation of the officers selling the weapons was money, not ideology, and does not indicate any al Qaeda penetration of a force that is supposed to protect the government.

Of course, they're going to say it's all for money. Yet the mullahs preach to the National Guard, too. Why should they be exempt from the frenzy of hatred?

The devastating bombs have generated not only revulsion among many Saudis but something once unthinkable, the questioning of the country's strict religious environment and whether it inspires -- intentionally or not -- Islamic-driven violence.

Well, DUH! Mullahs constantly preaching holy jihad and death to all infidels and polytheists (Westerners and non-Wahhabis) only cause peace and love. Everybody knows that.

Nayef said today that he saw no change in the future role of the religious police when asked about their standing after the bombings. He said separating "religion and life" in the kingdom was "unthinkable."

Translated, we need these violent, snot blowing mullahs to help us control the great unwashed and keep this wonderful gig we have. They have to live on $8000 a year in this sand covered hellhole, and we get to summer on the French Riviera.

I thought the great Washington Post was supposed to ask questions and get to the "TRUTH". Looks like this reporter swallowed some big time BS whole.

The "secret" is probably more like the population ballooning from the 1.5 million they actually had (not the 5.0 million they claimed they had ~ even 7.0 million in some Saudi sources 35 years ago) to maybe as many as 6.0 million at the present time.

Saudi is immensely wealthy but without a serious population. Syria could knock them off over the weekend except for the fact that Israel would move on them!
