What is happening is what the Saracens and the Moors could never do - enter and subdue the infidel West. The Moorish occupation of Spain, and the thrust of the Ottoman Empire to the very gates of Vienna, were but earlier skirmishes in the war against Christianity. Now that the Christian culture has largely surrendered by default, the explosion of Muslim communities within these nominally European countries has changed the complexion of the continent, with the unchurched becoming converts to Islam, and further augumenting the numbers within the walls.

Sharia law comes next. All your constitutions, parliaments, universities and mass communications become hollow shells, husks of their former meaning, as the West continues their headlong self-immolation.

What intellectual virus shall come along, in a few centuries, that shall devour the Muslim faith in its turn?

An interesting question would be how many old stock Frenchmen, Germans, et. al., of nominal Catholic or Protestant faith or familial heritage, are converting to Islam. If Muslim evangelization and intermarriage with Muslims wins over substantial numbers of old stock Europeans, the Islamization of the continent would be sped up.

The simple explanation is that France used the Iraq war issue in an attempt to regain its glory days of being an international power broker.

It's also the true one. To suggest, as this "viewing-with-alarm" author does, that this particular demographic is driving French and German foreign policy by virtue of 10% of the population and the potential of more is simply silly. It may eventually, it may not, but it is not in control at the moment, and to "explain" Chirac's and Schroeder's antics by musing darkly over population replacement is to attempt to twist human stupidity into evidence for a pet cause.

Immigration isn't really so much the issue as a stubborn refusal to assimilate, and this is not restricted to Islam. Even that is tolerable to a degree, as the continued existence of Amish or Mennonite enclaves in the United States shows. It is really only a single issue that is creating the problems we are seeing, and that is the renewed evangelism of Islam, the insistence that all must convert now and that Shar'ia is to be the law of the land, that is the source of the difficulty.

This will not be tolerated, and that needs to be made very clear to the mullahs who are driving this. There is, within the institutional structure of Western government, a provision, even a necessity, for the toleration of dissent - we lived (and are living) with communist evangelism for three quarters of a century. The limits to this toleration had to be codified with respect to communism and the boundaries drawn between dissent and subversion. These boundaries apply to Islam as well. This issue can be dealt with if the people charged with doing so will do their jobs before it reaches a crisis.

Good question. The struggle against the Nazis will, in historical perspective, seem almost trivial compared to what lies ahead for much of Europe.

There was a book (by Tom Clancy, perhaps?) that mentioned a covert Special Forces sort of organization that struck at certain (presumably Muslim) targets and rescued political prisoners (presumably Christians). The members of the strike team wore no insignia, save a Crusader's cross shoulder patch. Anyone recall what book that was from?

We've already given them a toehold in Bosnia and Kosovo. They won't be happy until they gain all of the Ottoman Empire back. Unless Europe reacts soon, it'll be too late.

Europe is far, far removed from historical Christianity. Rationalism and atheism were already fashionable in the 1800s. Eventually, people became more enamored with Eastern mysticism. The rise of paganism in Germany made conquest easy for the tyrannical neo-pagans, like the Nazis. Wonder what the new EU will look like?

The declining birth rate of native Europeans is another factor. Abortion, homosexuality and promiscuity have left their mark. Immigrants from Pakistan, Morocco, Turkey, Algeria, Libya, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia tend to have larger families.

Are we in the United States much different from Europe in these areas? The Roman Catholic Church and the old line Protestant denominations have strayed far from Christian teachings and have become, in effect, the Democratic Party at prayer. (One big exception being the Catholics' strong opposition to abortion and euthanasia.)

America has a strong element of conservative Christian faith in the numerous evangelical and fundamental churches, whose members represent one-fifth to one-third of the nation's population, depending on how you define "evangelical" or "born again." Yet this group is not invulnerable to the lures of the mainstream culture. A large majority of them send their children to public schools and arare entertained and informed by the same mass media that nominal Christians and the unchurched use. Many of them are ill informed about their beliefs and thus incapable of defending them. Many of their children succumb to the same "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" vices that plague their mainline Protestant, Catholic, and nonbelieving peers. Many of their best and brightest are lured into secular universities and lose their faith. One survey I have read stated that one-half of those college freshmen who claim they are "born again" no longer make that claim by their senior year.

For all their problems, it has been the conservative evangelical Christians who, humanly speaking, have prevented America from sliding further down the path of socialism and atheism. We may not face a Muslim time bomb, as does Europe, due to the fact that a large majority of our immigrant population comes from mostly non-Muslim Latin America and East Asia. However, failure on the part of the evangelicals to defend their faith and moral values and to preserve and expand their families and institutions will ensure the failure of America and what she stands for.

Arab/Islamic immigrants have on average 5-8 children.

The next ten to twenty years will be crucial for France. That France will be fully islamic, with Sharia law in 25-30 years is a completely realistic assumption.
