Clinton Accuses Bush of Focusing Too Much on the War on Terrorism By Jimmy Moore Talon News May 20, 2003

JACKSON, MS (Talon News) -- During a commencement speech at Tougaloo College, Former President Bill Clinton criticized President Bush for devoting too much time to the war on terrorism compared to domestic issues such as the economy and affirmative action.

"I supported the president when he asked for authority to stand up against weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but we can't be forever strong abroad if we don't keep getting better at home," said Clinton on Sunday to nearly 8,000 people in attendance.

The former president stayed and shook hands with all of the 144 graduates at the remote black private school in Jackson, Mississippi, the place where the Democrat presidential candidates will be holding a debate on August 13.

Clinton received applause from those in attendance every time he complained about President Bush. Former Mississippi governors Ray Mabus and William Winter, both Democrats, were among those in attendance at the graduation ceremony.

Speaking alongside Clinton were current Democrat Mississippi Gov. Ronnie Musgrove and Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), who graduated from Tougaloo and is a part of the Congressional Black Caucus.

"We Democrats in Congress miss you," lamented Rep. Thompson speaking directly to President Clinton. Since Clinton left office in 2001, Republicans have gained control of the White House, the U.S. Senate, and have retained control of the House of Representatives.

Although he usually commands as high as a $350,000 speaking fee, Clinton spoke at Tougaloo for nothing. The latest verbal strike by the former Democrat president against the current Republican president adds to the increased gripes the Democrats have for the Bush tax cuts and his position on affirmative action.

Despite the disappointment the Democrats have with President Bush, he is still enjoying an approval rating of 71 percent according to the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll.

Student government president C. J. Lawrence jokingly commented that the choice of Clinton was not a result of affirmative action. "Yes, Oprah Winfrey and Bill Cosby were also considered, but I assure you Bill Clinton was selected solely on his merit," he said followed by resounding applause.

Clinton used the opportunity to speak about the issue of affirmative action. He said that America needs to secure equal opportunity and access to people of all races and regardless of their income.

Repeatedly throughout his speech, Clinton bemoaned what he considers President Bush's narrow focus on the war on terrorism at the expense of domestic issues. He decried that President Bush "is still focused on defeating terrorism and weapons of mass destruction, and that's good, but not good enough. The power of our example is just as important as our military might."

The people at the graduation wished Clinton was eligible to run for president again. "I think if you were to take a vote here, they'd vote for Bill Clinton if he was running again," said one former graduate.

As if his attacks on President Bush were not enough, Clinton also chided former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MS), who was forced out of his leadership position because of his remarks in December about the retiring Senator from South Carolina, Strom Thurmond, who ran for president as a segregationist in 1948. Clinton said that Lott needs to raise money for the college for building renovations as a means for repaying them for his comments.

"Ask Lott to give you the money for the buildings. He said he was going to spend the rest of his life making up for the little trouble he had," Clinton said.

Gosh, Mr. Bush, you're really spending too much time on that tired old 'War on Terror,' y'know? I think you should spend more time looking for some sexy intern who'll give you a purdy li'l hummer. That's how I managed the Presidency and, shucks, you never saw any terrorist attacks under my watch. (Never you mind that Oklahoma City thing...and the first World Trade Center attack...and the USS Cole...and the Khobar Towers...and all that sorta stuff. I'm not responsible for that. And I didn't inhale...and I did not have sex with that woman. Trust me. And...uhhh...free Mumia.)

Gack...I think I'm gonna be sick.

Democrat style of argumentation: You're spending too much time on Iraq, not the war on terrorism. Whoops, I meant that you're spending too much time on terrorism and not the economy. Whoops, I meant that you're spending too much time on the economy and not domestic issues like social security. You're spending too much time reforming social security, and not enough time on child poverty...

Or...The war on Iraq is a bad idea because they'll be Vietnam-like casaualties...It's a bad idea because they'll use chemicals on our troops...It's a bad idea because it'll be a quagmire and our troops will be fighting in urban warfare for months on end...It's a bad idea because they'll be major collateral damage...Oh none of that happened...well it's bad because 2,000 items were stolen from the Iraqi museum...oh they only documented roughly 40 items...well it's a bad idea because...

These liberal morons are like the Bourbons- the forget nothing (ie: Vietnam syndrome) and they never learn.

" When do blacks start to feel used by this individual? "

You make an excellent observation. When President Bush addresses a black gathering,he speaks in a dignified manner on a serious subject.
When Clinton speaks before black groups,he behaves like he's a cheap vaudeville act, complete with red faced guffaws, inappropriate comments and total disrespect. The only thing missing is the top hat and spats. If a Republican spoke to black groups in the clinton way, they would be accused of racism. Clinton apparently thinks his black audiences are not capable of understanding much more than slogans, personal attacks on Republicans and his usual brand of hateful gibberish. Can you imagine the uproar if President Bush were to say that Sen Byrd should be forced to pay reparations ?? Clinton said just that, about Sen Lott to this group and nary a peep.

What a fool Bill Clinton is...

Has it occurred to you that maybe Clinton DOES NOT WANT a Democrat to win in 2004?

1) A Democrat campaign would really have to catch on fire to beat W. in 2004. If that happens, it takes the shine of Clinton's popularity in the 90's (among Dems).

2) If a Dem wins in 2004, there goes Hillary's campaign in 2008. Clinton wants his wife to win in '08 because he'll spin that as his own re-election to a third term, and build his "legacy" on that.

Let me get this straight ... 9 dem candidates are saying Bush is not giving enough attention to security ...??

And ... x42 is saying Bush is focusing too much on security ...??

As usual, the dems don't know what the right or left hand is doing.

Hillary will not even be close. The country is not ready for a woman president yet, and I say this with no disrespect to women either. I just do not see it happening. Add to that how polarizing she is I do not see that many men nationally voting for her as she rubs many men the wrong way their party affiliation notwithstanding. She will also be someone everyone is so very tired of by then. Its always all about how wonderful she is for doing it all for the children, people have read through her lies quite well and Bush has set a new standard she can not meet.

Damn!! I love that!! My new slogan: "I'll pay reparations right after Grand Kleagle Byrd does!!" What a bumper sticker (of course, here in Amherst, MA, better known as Berkeley East, I would probably attract much liberal vandalism on my vehicle.

Nonetheless, I am going to be chuckling over that all day!!

When Senator Byrd criticized President Bush, FReepers and others went wild and inundated his office with fax’s and mail. I suggest we do the same thing to bill clinton every time he runs off at the mouth, bad mouthing a President who can lead while fighting wars on both fronts and still take care of the economy etc. home and abroad. Clinton said Bush wasn’t doing enough about terrorism last week, which is it?

I can’t find an address for the man, can anyone else? It is interesting that neither clinton is easy to contact.

I have contacted GrassRoots.net to help. Lets Freep the heck out of failed Bill Clinton
