Its one thing to hear Pres. Bush say that we are fighting evil, its another to see it in action in front of your very eyes.

Exactly.

"I just don't want to install real (spyware) player on my computer" -Whats up with that?"

Put a firewall on your computer and then install Real player. You will see what I mean. That software calls home more often than a college freshman who lost all his spending money playing poker.

Wow, didn't know that. What is the purpose?

BTW, that is why I don't accept cookies, except for FR login info. It is a hassle refusing them but I don't what info they gather.

Thanks for the reply.

My point is perhaps one should not stop reading there.

Wasn't one of the sole purposes of Jesus and the New Testament to correct some of those Laws? The golden rule for instance would quickly override stoning, as well as love thy neighbor.

If sections of the bible are allowed to stand on their own without consideration for their historical place, and the context of the full book, it becomes a pretty interesting book indeed.

Don't really want a flame war. But this is my point.

Uh... I really hate to point this out... but "Love your neighbor as yourself" is straight out of Mosaic law. Furthermore, the source for the Golden Rule is Matthew 7:12, which is as follows (KJV): "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." (emphasis mine).

In other words, the golden rule was Jesus's own distillation of the whole of the Law, the very Law which prescribed stoning for certain offenses. What do we make of that?

It's a whole 'nother discussion... but in the meantime, we should remember that Jesus didn't see his ministry or his purpose as different or seperate from the Law, but as fulfillment of it.

No flame war here as I actually agree with you, but the other fellow's point that stoning was a standard punishment at the time of Moses and later (standard punishment for false prophets, sodomites, and adulterers) was also correct. There are a lot of things described in the Bible that we no longer find acceptable such as slaughtering everything on two feet or four in a town we might conquer, multiple wives, slavery, etc.

In general, I think most people, including most muslims, prefer to live in a culture that has moved past those and many other practices. It's the ones that think it's just hunky dory to do whatever is described from 1400 years ago that need to get their "minds right". Christ showed the world a better way that is not easy to live up to, but to be much preferred over what was standard before.

That movie gave me a headache! P>

Reginald Denny - Stoned & Beaten at Florence and Normandy

Some US Citizens can be darn mean spiritied to other US Citizens. The Reginal Denny film bothered me more than Islamic Punishment.

Denny was innocent.

The mullah's film was like a national geographic movie reel found on stoneyaged type people circa 600AD.

I give it two thumbs down.

If you want historic blood, Gladiator is the film for you.

Good Evening All-

Gruesome footage, if not poor-quality.

While discomforting, I force myself to watch things like this to keep me sharp and serve as a reminder to what we are up against as a country. Truly unspeakable monsters.

Equally saddening but simultaneously inspirational to good Americans is the film at http://www.politicsandprotest.org.
