>>Can lightening go through windows?

No. Glass is an insulator - very poor conductor of electricity. But staying away from windows in a storm is a good idea, because of suddenly flying debris crashing through them, or, in an intense presure change, they can blow out, or in.

Well during a regular storm I have not let them near windows just because of my fear of lightening striking through the glass. If the storm is bad enough that debris might fly through anything, I'll be found in the storm shelter. lol My son loves to watch rain and storms though so it's been hard to keep him away from watching.

Yes it can go through windows! The poster is just plain wrong. Lightning has just traveled miles through the air (a very poor conductor of electricity), a window will not stop it.

FYI: It's not the tires on your car that protect you either, it's the cage of metal that gives the lightning a path to the ground (through your tires) that offers you some protection in a car.

Indoor Activities: Things To Avoid Inside homes, people must also avoid activities which put their lives at risk from a possible lightning strike. As with the outdoor activities, these activities should be avoided before, during, and after storms. In particular, people should stay away from windows and doors and avoid contact with anything that conducts electricity. People may also want to take certain actions well before the storm to protect property within their homes, such as electronic equipment.
