"Any man will drive down the road in a car with 300,000 miles on it but only an insane fool would purchase one."
A sad but painful truth.

Wow, sorry it didn't work out for you. Most HS sweeties don't make it after graduation. It hasn't been an easy road, we had to make things work. But looking at our children and our life today, I couldn't or wouldn't change a thing!

He is also calling attention to the fact that males prefer younger women, always have, always will.
Outside of the anthropological aspect, I dispute that. Not all males prefer younger females.

I'm happy for you, and I also think it was a different era when you came up(no offense ;) You weren't necessarily shunned if you got married out of HS, whereas in cities with kids who expect to go to college, people ridicule you(or pronounce doom from the get-go.)

After experience, I've learned its what's inside a person that counts for more than what you look at. If you're going to be spending a lifetime together, it helps not to be superficial. I concur totally. A few years back (I married young and had babies young) my son was lamenting the lack of interesting, faithful and, what was most important to him at the time, PRETTY, women in his age group. I told him, "when you are eighty, you won't care if she was gorgeous when she was twenty, you'll care that she's been good to you, loved you, and was a good mother to your children."

I had a feeling you were involved with an older woman.
As for your situation, my guess is that at age 28 you presented a more appealing package deal to any woman(young or old) than I did two years ago, or even now for that matter.

Yes, demographics do play in ones mentality. In the country it wasn't unheard of to get married early. Yet in the city, it's "wait, you are young, go to college...meet people"...I don't live in a rural area, the country mentality is still here.

"By the time she reaches 35 that same elite German Panzer has turned into a wasted carcass on the Kursk battlefield. "
Utter nonsense. This overstated, hyperbolic writer hasn't a clue. I'd take a 35-year-old over a 20-year-old any day of the week as a partner.

That was me. I was having a great time and would argue that I was going to be the "Cat Lady" on the block. Baking cookies for the kids and rollerblading with a long gray braid. You know, the crazy old woman on the corner with 100 cats that all the kids call "Aunt".
I was blessed with meeting my husband at work. That is rare at 34. We have two wonderful daughters. My husband had a long relationship with a young chick who was shallow and left him because he was "boring". I would like to find her and shake her hand. She gave me, what I thought I didn't want, a great, stable husband and two beautiful daughters.
Nothing worse that hitting that 50th birthday and realizing that career was not worth it.

"Why go out for milk when you have a cow at home?"
A slightly different twist on the old saying, "why buy the cow when you can get milk for free?" Having experienced the cow at home in both the real and the metaphorical sense I can tell you that cows are high maintenance and require daily attention at inconvenient times. Some men have a hard time deciding which is more trouble, maintaining the cow at home or going out looking for milk. Also some cows have an annoying habit of breaking out of the fence and ending up in the neighbor's pasture. They also sometimes like to kick you when milking time comes. All in all, keeping a cow at home is not something to be entered into without forethought.

What's funny to me, is that so many women don't understand that the career, the cars, the money--it's all done FOR THEM. Honestly, how many people feel a true PURPOSE in their work? How many people work have the courage and the sense of sacrifice to work with poor children in Asia somewhere? How many people are doctors or work for some freedom-defending lawyer service? How many truly feel fulfilled or challenged by what they do every day(AT work, not outside?)
The vast majority of men and women go to their jobs because they get PAID. Sure, they may like some of the people and like that line of work MORE than some others, but that is not their calling. It's fine to pursue a career to make a comfortable future for yourself. But if you think "meaning" is going to be a part of it, you're fooling yourself(with a few exceptions.)

LOL true, buying a cow certainly requires a great deal of foresight, realism and a bit of luck. :)

Take it from someone who married late and started babies at 37. I am tired and my body has gone to pot. Thank God I found a good husband who understands and not one who wants the young shallow chickies. I think you're being at least somewhat shortsighted. Starting early can mean other aspects of life are unfulfilled. It is the mid-life reckoning that some early dreams aren't going to be realized that often leads to the crises and divorce. Your glass sounds more full than empty.

As a sex partner or a marriage partner?
What if the ages were 25 and 40? Or 30 and 45?
