Yes, Kerry was in Vietnam...what he DOESN'T tell you, however, was that Kerry, during the Vietnam demonstrations of the 70s, took his medals and threw them over the White House fence in protest. It frosts my cookies when I hear Kerry talk about being a Vietnam vet when he did everything possible to stomp on his image of being there. I saw it on the black and white at the time...I remember how odd it was that a soldier would throw his medals away after he fought for the meaning of them...Kerry was pandering to the protestors at that time....NOT fighting for the soldiers.

Do I remember reading on FR somewhere that those weren't even his medals? I seem to recall that, but could be dreaming, I suppose!

He admitted later they weren't his medals.

Yes he was pandering to the protesters at the time and still is.
He did not throw his medals away though, he threw away the ribbons they are attached too (in symbolism). some savvy reporter from a business mag unearthed this fact and kerry admitted to it. can't remember where or when (was recently though), but heard it on an am talk show late night, one of the mikes, either savage or reagan.
he still has the medals today.
he was a phony then and is a phony now.
