But I'm no longer able to even consider the Atkins diet. I've recently developed painful gout in my right foot, and Atkins would do nothing but aggravate it.

Perhaps you should reconsider. I don't see how eating carbs is going to help your foot.

Gout is aggrivated by the purines meat. A high pro diet only makes it worse.

Gout is caused by diet, usually. Purines in certain foods cause a build up of urates in the blood that crystalize into needles and deposit themselves into your joints (in my case, my right foot.)

Meats are mostly very high in purines. Fruits, breads, pastas, vegetables have little or no purines.

That makes Atkins a no-go for me.
