I'm thinking of reposting it later today. It didn't seem to get many hits when I did post it, but when people see it it tends to get positive comments.

Marxists and Fascists were competitors, not opposites. Exactly. Friendly competitors at times too as they worked together to bring down the Weimer Republic. The German communist publication Rote Fahne published the national socialist writings of Moeller van den Brucke, author of Das dritte Reich, on the same page as an essay by the Bolshevik Karl Radek.
Radek's protege Willi Munzenberg bragged to intimates that communist antifascist movements were a front and the Nazi party was part of the communist party: "Brown on the outside. Red on the inside."

Thanks for the additional info. More affirmation of what we all should know but often don't.

The media is the problem. The dialectic is fascist vs communist. Nothing else is allowed. Only caught a glimpse of the CBS early years of Hitler movie the other day. But I can guess it did not mention the Beer Hall Putsch was not the first, nor most serious, attempt overthrow the government in southern Germany. Four years before, German communists not only attempted but did, for a short time, seize control and created a Bavarian Soviet (which operated on orders from Lenin). In 1931, German communists, on orders from Stalin, formed a "United Front" with the Nazis to bring down the Social Democrat Party in Prussia.
No one should really have been shocked by the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact of Aug. 14, 1939. The fascists and communists had been cooperating for almost 20 years. The worldwide antifascist movement gave Stalin cover to eliminate his domestic enemies while the threat of Bolshevikism allow Hitler to mobilize his people and put down his enemies. Willi Munzenberg, who created the anti-fascist movement among intellectual elites in the west, was the most cynical person ever to walk the planet.

Thanks for the history lesson. It seems that tyranny cannot be a hydra, it must be a single-headed asp, so each aspiring head must eliminate the others.

...working to bring down the Republic! How right you are.
Willi Munzenberg's ability to mobilize the Interanational Labor Defence as a lying propaganda tool for communism is sadly underreported. He turned Sacco and Vanzetti, a pair of murderous robbers, into martyrs and fed anti-America lies.

I think that your definition is just about right. My understanding is that fascism develops a quid pro quo relationship with elitist industrialists, to benefit both the state and private industry, the people are the tools with which the state controls the industry.

The Sacco and Vanzetti case was Willi's first great success. It presaged many trials to come, including OJ's and Clinton's impeachment. Don't defend the accused. Everyone knows they are guilty. Accuse the accusers, accuse the system.

Four years after these thugs killed people in a simple but nasty robbery, Willi Munzenberg and the Communist Party in the US made these felons icons. Sacco and Vanzetti became symbols of the front page symbols of the evils of America.
When the 'enemy within' finally ceded their case that the buggers were guilty, this news was totally and completely buried. Thank you New York Times because many of us have heard that Sacco and Vanzetti were persecuted but few ever learned of their crimes.

Ben Shahn was very popular when I was a kid. Sacco and Vanzetti made him as an artist. Background info and two of his paintings, both titled "The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti", are
here.

By 1961 definitive accounts of the guilt of Sacco and Vanzetti were published. The most significant of these was written by Max Eastman in the National Review but the commie left never gives up in spinning fairy tales. In 1977 Gov. Dukakis proclaimed Sacco and Vanzetti Day in the State of Mass.
To praise Shaun's puerile work is funny.

There is a sub-set of lunatic loons who appear to wish the ... end of American society (( link )) --- as we (( once -- 1st )) know it. Like the Nazis and the communists in Weimar Germany, they have a great deal in common as potential destroyers of the social fabric.
I have engaged in several debates in the last few days, and I admire FreeRepublic as a forum for the free expression of ideas, but the overwhelming presence of this bunch of loons is very off-putting.
Lenin is supposed to have said that capitalists would sell him the rope by which they were to be hung. The anarcho-loons on this forum would not bother to sell the rope but provide it as a public service.

This is a sad state of affairs. Some seem to believe that commie teachers in the public schools should have more civil rights than loyal citizens.

Georges Sorel the Fascist with Marxist beliefs. Schwartz György George likely call himself George Soros in the honor of Georges Sorel. Sorelianism had a strong understanding of National myth where he didn’t believe in science. State-sponsored propaganda utilizing myth was what drove the people.
