The quiet had been that of death: the gym is filled with some 200 reassembled and partly clothed skeletons, wrapped in white cloth sheeting, from what was yesterday emerging as potentially one of the biggest and most gruesome mass grave sites of victims slaughtered by the regime of Saddam Hussein.

From what we're hearing, half the country is a killing field. And the other half is a graveyard. How did Hussein ever find time to build anything?

All these victims were massacred following the Shia uprising against Saddam on the slipstream of the 1991 Gulf war, an intifada that was urged but unaided by then President George Bush Senior. The rebellion was left to its fate: a punitive onslaught by Saddam's Republican Guard. We can never forgive Bush 41 for this. He made a promise to the Shi'ites/Kurds in Iraq to help them and a promise to the UN not to. And he chose to honor his promise to the UN.
Bush 41 is a wimp. Let's not pretend he was much better than Bill Clinton. If he had beaten Clinton in 1992 and won a second term, this country would be in a very, very bad situation. He would have done nothing about Al-Qaida during his presdency, because he loves to suck up to the Saudis. Clinton would win the presidency in 1996 and then 2000--and he would be the 9/11 President.
I'm GLAD Bush41 lost.
