CA: Yes, Republicans have shown their solution to the state budget deficit

CALIFORNIA is facing an unprecedented budget shortfall, and so far Gov. Gray Davis has provided considerable rhetoric, but not much leadership. Exhibiting a memory as politically convenient as his May revise budget, Davis this week attempted to claim that there are no alternatives to his budget proposal to raise billions in new taxes and fees. He failed to acknowledge that Assembly Republicans presented a budget proposal weeks before his May revise.

Still not a peep about the possible savings of billions of taxpayer dollars by eliminating the "free everything" to illegal aliens. Does anyone else find this strange? Wouldn't this ordinarily be a common sense solution to at least part of the huge deficit? Cowardly politicians, all.

Or stated otherwise: If Davis hadn't illegally abandoned pursuit of upholding the will of the voters in Proposition 187, this budget deficit would not exist.

No guts, no glory.

It seems like the time has almost come for people in that state to have a tax-revolt. Otherwise they should just plan on moving out.

Texas isnt' having a very easy time trying to balance it's budget either ---the democrats are demanding more social programs and more money to buy the votes of the poor immigrants. They've already decided here not to cut much from programs like CHIP ---we're headed for a state income tax and higher taxes.

I'm not reall sure, but I think that there was a california proposition about that, and it was overturned as constitutional. Part of my plan would be recall or impeachment of the judge(s) involved, and a constitutional amendment.

The only treatment of illegal or undocumented aliens that would be at public expense, in my book, would be treatment of infectious diseases. That would be coupled with deportation to prevent passing the disease to INS guards.

I would, however, free charitable treatment from the burdens of malpractice lawyers. If a person registered as indigent, the doctor could treat them, and the recipient of charitable healthcare would not have "standing" to sue. There, a strike at Trial Lawyers at the same time as at those who profit from illegal aliens.

Go one further. How about "anyone who employs an illegal alien is guilty of criminal fraud".

How do you know for certain that California is on the verge of bankruptcy?

When the SJMN allows a conservative viewpoint to be published on its web site.

When this same article appears in their print edition you know California only has about 12 more hours of solvency.

No liberal publication will go down with the ship. They will all say "I told you so" and point to this article with pride.

I think that there was a california proposition

That was Proposition 187, overwhelmingly approved by California voters. It would have relieved taxpayers of bearing the burden of supporting millions of illegal aliens.

It was overturned before it had a chance to begin by a liberal judge (Mariana Pfaelzer). Gray Davis could have fought for its reinstatement, but of course he didn't. The large pro-illegal alien lobby here in CA denounced those who voted for it as "racists".

It wasn't racial, it was financial, as the costs of supporting millions of illegal aliens are staggering. The Mexican lobby has a strong foothold here as thousands more illegals stream in weekly. We are outnumbered.

I often wonder why Mexican-Americans want to put up with it, because they are also forced to pay the bills, but most of them are pro-illegal alien from what I've seen. It's a Mexican thing, I guess, they want to be surrounded by their "countrymen", but if the invasion keeps up the way it has, who will pay the bills then?

It's really expensive to live here, and very maddening when you see all the illegals getting everything free, and then to see your own kids having to pay for it too. Good deal for the illegals, bad deal for California taxpayers.

What's lacking is a proposal to reduce taxes in three steps: abolish the income tax, abolish business license fees, and eliminate property taxes on senior citizens' homes. Taken together, these proposals will reduce the size of government by substantially reduce the amount of money it takes in and hinder the establishment of new government programs. The California Republican Party needs to do more than just hold the line on spending. Its needs to make the case for letting people keep more of what they earn so they can make ends meet and live the good lives they deserve for themselves and their families.
