Sure, manufacturing it will NEVER backfire. That's not necessary, anyway. The 30-and-under generation, the vast majority of the population, are ready to rebel. So, apparently, are a goodly portion of their elders. I propose another arms-for-hostages deal. To the freedom-desiring Iranians: we'll get you arms, you take the Mullahs hostage - for 444 years.

If they are ready to rebel, we need to back them, but arming them, might not be the best way. You would rather it look like an internally caused revolution, not the US sponsered version that will make them think whoever is a reformist is now an american puppet. There is a high amount of nationalism in Iran (these people get insulted when you call them arab).

We just need to subtley and below the radar, keep instigating them, and riling them up, then let them overthrow there own government, anything that could hurt the mullah's including manufacturing dirt that makes them look hypocritical is a good thing, a fracture in the fundamental ruling class, is something that can only help.

We can be patient, it will happen, but in the mean time, this government now is supporting terrorism, and the victims will probably die, before they overthrow there own government.
