Another coward takes his own life rather than adapt to changing circumstances.

I don't know what's more pathetic, the guy who sucked the gun or the guys who are using it to advance their own agenda.

They both make me sick.

This is the wonderful Hindu society that we are giving our jobs to --

http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0306/feature1/index.html

To be born a Hindu in India is to enter the caste system, one of the world's longest surviving forms of social stratification. Embedded in Indian culture for the past 1,500 years, the caste system follows a basic precept: All men are created unequal. The ranks in Hindu society come from a legend in which the main groupings, or varnas, emerge from a primordial being. From the mouth come the Brahmans—the priests and teachers. From the arms come the Kshatriyas—the rulers and soldiers. From the thighs come the Vaisyas—merchants and traders. From the feet come the Sudras—laborers. Each varna in turn contains hundreds of hereditary castes and subcastes with their own pecking orders.

A fifth group describes the people who are achuta, or untouchable. The primordial being does not claim them. Untouchables are outcasts—people considered too impure, too polluted, to rank as worthy beings. Prejudice defines their lives, particularly in the rural areas, where nearly three-quarters of India's people live. Untouchables are shunned, insulted, banned from temples and higher caste homes, made to eat and drink from separate utensils in public places, and, in extreme but not uncommon cases, are raped, burned, lynched, and gunned down.

I agree - he could have found a good job washing dishes.

I agree with you, 100%.

I am sick of Americans thinking that they are intitled to employment without competition. The other person using this death to advance an agenda which suggests that Americans need help to deal with foreign competition is even worse than the suicide.

I do not understand what the big deal about IT workers is anyway. Things change. Why didn't the man training his replacement just resign? Did he have no savings and living paycheck to paycheck? If so, who's fault is that?

We are currently supporting 39 weeks of unemployment insurance for those who cannot find work. I think the coward would have just found another reason to give up if not for this one.

Americans just do not realize how good we have it over here. There are people in other countries willing to work harder for much less. Maybe instead of trying to keep them out, we should develop a set of values that insure we do not become less valuable workers to this nation's employers.

According to some surveys, the US has lost at least 800,000 jobs in the past year and some 3.3 million jobs will move overseas over the next few years because of outsourcing, mostly to India.

The Bank has also acknowledged that it had asked local workers to train foreigners because such knowledge transfer was essential. According to Tom Flanagan, his son was "totally disgusted" with the fact that he and his fellow-workers had to train foreigners to do his job so they could take over. "That sir is a travesty," he said in one e-mail.

Gun suckers? What a nice way of describing suicide by a desperate man.

No, I know several of the IT people that can't find jobs, all the jobs are going to Indians. Market place economy and Ayn Rand lives? No, it's average Americans with very good resumes who can't find jobs because it's being out-sourced and they're being forced to train their foreign replacements. Let's hope that you are in a secure market and not worried about such problems.

Here, here, I agree. The cowards way out by taking ones own life instead of adapt, adjust and overcome your setbacks.

His parents should now do the American thing, sue the Bank for causing their son's death. As we have not yet outsourced our court system to Asia, the jury will likely find in their favor to the tune of many millions. A few dozen such suits and the Bank would find it much cheaper to not outsource.

Nice. Would you have rather had him take a Winchester 30-6 and shoot all his coworkers first before taking his life?

I have a different take on it.

I am in Connecticut. I have been unemployed for the last 3 months despite 25 or so resumes a week going out.

I know 5 CAD languages, but I only have an Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering/Machine Design

I have had no interviews and only 5 or 6 temp agencies have called me to put my name in somewhere.

Pratt & Whitney are sending 75% of their machining to China or Poland, and they are now sending their math calculations to India for $10 hr.

Drafting resources are now being done in India too, for Hamilton Sundstrand I have been told.

One company I worked for 2 years ago moved their entire manufacturing base to China, and they employed all hispanic workers right off the boat at minimum wage.

Since telecom collapsed 2 years ago, I have not had one steady job in engineering. I have had only 2 jobs this year, each for 4 weeks.

Because i have 7 years experience in Engineering now, 3 as a project engineer, all manual labor jobs I have been applying for have turned me down, claiming I will leave as soon as engineering picks up, only all I can ask is: Leave to where? Out of state? At the drop of a hat?

Also, I recently fell at my apartment, tore my rotator cuff and CANNOT work manual labor for the next 6 to 8 months, I no longer have the option to go back to what I did 10 years ago.

Adapt? The market controls what we can adapt to, not our abilities. There has to be a market for our skills, and if you are unemployed, you cannot just go back to school for 2 years to learn a new skill in a new field. That takes money.

Fortunately, sine I am so broke and injured, I may be able to apply for student aid and do just that, but only because I am injured. Otherwise, I would have to wait until I had a job again and pay myself since my service time is not recognized for veterans benefits, nor am I a single mother on welfare, and that means I would not only have to pay back bills, but come up with several thousand dollars for school in between temp jobs that I get offered.

I have hopes of winning a settlement from my landlord, but that would be to cover my operation and lost wages, not some financial boom. Hopefully enough to maybe get the car fixed and stay ahead of my bills!

I wouldn't doubt that pretty soon people won't be shooting themselves, but rather their (former) bosses. People are going to go postal if the trend keeps up. But hey, what’s a few execs here and there. They are replaceable.

If that were to happen to some crooked fat head who runs some big corporation it would be all over the news and people would mourn like no tommorrow.

You don't know what's more pathetic? I'll tell you what's more pathetic, it's the companies and corporations that no longer have one shred of allegiance, or patriotism to America or it's people. It's a sell out of American's and our economy. These companies could care less about Americans.

They are literally spitting in the faces of the American people, the people that made these companies great.

What a cold-blooded comment. Haven't you ever heard of depression? This unfortunate man was surely battling with stress and depression for an extended period of time. How would you like to be forced to train your replacement, knowing that you soon faced termination? Then when the bad news comes, would you be dancing out the door singing "C'est la vie?" This man was shattered. We should say, "Rest in peace."

IMO, we shouldn't make blanket statements of condemnation at people's bad choices. How do you know how you'd react if your life was destroyed? And why assume that this man had other options?

Here's news for y'all: it's a ROTTEN economy. It'll be a ROTTEN economy for quite some time in the future. And with the endemic age discrimination in our workplaces, it'll be a TERRIBLE economy for people 45 and over. So let's have some compassion for those of us trying to get by, OK?

People like you ought to be sent to India to see firsthand what they are taking away from decent hard working Americans!
