Except for the "secretly" part, I've been making this particular argument for years.
How can a white person, who climbed the mountain by the skin of his teeth, see a black person, who drove up in a helicopter, as equal?
ANSWER:
He won't, he cannot.
IS HE A RACIST BECAUSE OF THAT?
Of course not. He would equally resent a white guy in a helicopter.
Why push yourself when you know you don't have to?...If preferences were eliminated from higher education, black students at every level of education from primary through middle and high school would have to take academic performance more seriously....fifteen years ago my daughter was taking a special course to help maximize her scores on the SAT - one evening she was sitting next to a black girl and they were comparing notes on the miseries of taking the test - after a few minutes the other girl leaned back in her chair and said "it really doesn't matter how I do - I'll get into school okay - I'm black" - Charen sums it up well....
