We can't afford to put enough border patrol on the border or in the interior to stop the invasion and remove the squatters, but we can afford to set up welcome stations for the arriving hordes.

Say, didn't Clinton leave office recently? Why is this crap still going on? I think there's a bug in the ointment here.....

i was listening to the john and ken show on kfi while driving home this afternoon.

john had rep. tancredo on who spoke to the issue of the garbage that immigrants dump, as mentioned on fr before. he said that he found an irs application for earned income credit in the trash. apparently the applicant had made some money in the u.s. but had been given several thousands of dollars of eic.

interesting was john's question, why do other elected representatives not care about immigration?

tancredo replied that some of them do mention it privately to him but that they're afraid to go against the democrats or the white house on immigration.

john commented that it's strange how we got to the point where our own elected officials are afraid to deal with illegal immigration.

I agree with you on the invasion thing but I don't see these beacons as "welcome stations". The beacons are simply flypaper. Hungry or thirsty or distressed border intruders will be attracted to them and will hit the panic button. BP will come and apprehend them and anyone with them. I believe they might serve to reduce the number of deaths in the desert and increase the number of apprehensions.

On the flipside, knowing the beacons are there might invite MORE intruders because they know that if they get into trouble out in the desert they can just call a mulligan and try again another day. The desert won't be seen as much the threat that it is now and that may entice more intruders to attempt to cross. This may, in fact, backfire.

The answer, of course, is to stop them at the damn border. Don't even let them across. Keep them out of the deadly deserts, etc. There's the line - there's the law - what's the problem!!?
