Each side sees itself as gentlemanly and the other side as savage. We perceive Democrats as playing by their own rules when they see fit, shunning the traditions of the Senate, by fillibustering circuit court nominees- the first time in history that has been done. I've talked to Democrats who think Republicans are like them but only bare-knuckles. It's interesting how in preparing for war, you always dehumanize the opposition, as having the morals of animals.
